Flip Flop Chain Alignment
So I just got a flip flop wheel set. I'm happy, the freewheel works great, and the wheels themselves are much better quality then my old ones.
But I have an issue when changing to the fixed gear. I made sure they were both the same amount of teeth so I can flip with no chain issues, and that worked. I can make sure it has plenty of tension. But I started spinning the tire and I heard some noise, a clicking kind of sound that I narrowed down to the chain not being perfectly aligned with the front hub. The fixed gear is slightly inside of where the free wheel sits, and its a big difference. Is there some kind of spacer I can use to pop it out a bit? Also, now that I got it pedaling, and stopped it quickly, I felt the cog tighten...am I going to need nifty tools to get it off again if I can add a spacer? Thanks for the help! |
First, is you cog on the right way (some are not asymmetric)? Second, never run a fixed wheel without properly tightening the cog/lockring, the slipping/tightening may have been the hub threads getting hosed. Buy the tools and install properly or bring to LBS to make sure it is a) not ruined. b) installed properly.
