Melvin tensioned with fixed cog?
Can you use this with a fixed cog? That'd be great, say yes.

Nope, sorry.
Is there no way to convert a bike with vertical drop outs to fixed?
Never mind, should have checked with sheldon first.
I'd love to see someone try the floating gear. I think you should give it a whirl and tell us what you think.
use the magic gear calculator.
I used to ride an eccentric ENO hub on a vertical drop frame before I bought a track frame. It was very solid and you can really stump on that stuff. ... But ENO hub cost a lot and I had it built at LBS which cost me a great deal more. You might as well go buy a new frame. (or blaze on a pair of track drop-outs? Never done that.)
... I am real stupid. I got rid of that wheel set! Someone's really having a lot of fun with it now. I ought to have kept it! |

What is the floating gear?
Try it and run 2 brakes. What's the worst that could happen?
Oh crap, I forgot what I am supposed to answer. Floating gear is this right? Sorry about that.
So wait, why is the floaty gear a bad idea then?
by floaty gear do you mean ghost cog?
I found it. Here.
http://bikemag.com/diy/diy-making-a-...r-singlespeed/ There is a post there to the article which tells you the problems. But I think I will do that to my next bike if it is a single speeder. I love looking geeky. |
