Polishing a set of Silver OpenPros

Has anyone polished a Mavic Silver OpenPro? I'm most likely going to use a polish and a buffer on a drill. Is the rim anodized or coated? Someone mentioned using EZ off over cleaner to remove it. Any pitfalls or advice? Cheers.

I had a buddy use some of that ovencleaner on some aeroheads and his wheels look badass, especially with the radial front.

You should probably try the oven cleaner first, then hand finish them with the buffer. They'll look great.

Don't leave it on too long; sodium hydroxide eats aluminum.

sounds like a pain in the ass.
the bare aluminum will get very cloudy and ugly in a few months
and when the rim is built-up it will be difficult to re-polish.

if you want shiny box-section rims, just get these: https://www.velo-orange.com/vopari.html or https://www.velo-orange.com/suncrporim.html

Hmmm some food for thought, cheers for those links but I'll be getting the OPs regardless of whatever sillyness I partake in afterwards. So, they'll get cloudy after polishing them? Can I protect the polished surface after the fact?

This is just a mad thought that occurred to me the other day, nothing written in stone as it were. Thanks for the ideas, keep em coming.

Sun CR-18 is a very shiny rim. Strong, too.

One thing to note about those polished CR-18's... the sidewalls are NOT polished. I got a set from velo-orange also, expecting the entire rim to be polished, but they weren't. That's not to say they're not great rims.

you might want to investigate some sort of clear anodization or some other clear coat that is permanent. Having to re-polish or wax the rims might get messy.
