Frame swap
 

Im thinking about swapping out my dawes SST frame for something a with little tighter geometry. I wanna try something different. I was thinking of switching to a kilo TT frame from bike island. or the V2 scrambler. what differences should I be weary about with these frames? are there others I should be looking at with similar geo?

first off: why do you want tighter geometry? thats the question you'll have to answer in order to justify to yourself that you need this new frame.

is that not a good enough reason?

I say that's a perfectly good reason.

The Scrambler is an okay frame but it's a little on the heavy side and still has somewhat relaxed geo. The Kilo, however, is a touch nicer (the welds and finish on mine are flawless) and is considerably tighter. If you don't want to spend a ton of money, I say go with the KTT.

Im leaning toward the Kilo. I like the look of the front end on the kilo a lot. And the option to go either threaded or threadless with the fork is a big plus.

The crowned Kilo fork is nice. I bought the complete bike, so I'm stuck threadless. However...I've heard from an inside source that full-chrome Kilo framesets will be available from BikeIsland in the near future and will be the same threaded/threadless option. I'm waiting patiently...........

As far as geo the Scrambler is tighter than the Kilo TT, but Kilo TT may be lighter and have a little more quality control.

A bit tighter in most every way... at least as the geo is currently posted (refs below)
Head angle: Scrambler 74-75, Kilo TT 72.5-73.5
Seat tube angle: Scrambler 74.5-76, Kilo TT 74-75
Chainstay length: Scrambler 394mm, Kilo TT 403mm
Wheelbase (on 55cm): Scrambler 968mm, Kilo TT 986mm (on a 53cm TT it's 980, heck it's 966 on a 47cm TT)

Whoa...I stand corrected regarding the Scrambler. For some reason, I thought it slightly more relaxed. Should have researched before posting!

actually, you're wrong. he doesn't have to answer any questions posed by you or anyone. if he wants tighter geometry, then he's allowed to buy a frame with tighter geometry, regardless of what any whiny internet nerd has to say about it.

aaaahh. now heres some good info. so the scrambler is pretty tight and the kilo is in between my Dawes and the scrambler but more on the scrambler side...ive also heard that the kilo frames run a tad large. my dawes is a 58cm so should I order the 57 if I decide to get the kilo?

I usually feel comfortable on a 55. My 53cm Kilo is a perfect fit.

The 57 Kilo TT shows a 33 inch standover... might be the 55 is better. The 58 Dawes SST shows 32 inch standover, and the 55 Kilo TT 32.28 inch standover.
