Front wheel creak

so earlier tonight i was riding my fixed gear and noticed a sort of creaking or tinking...for lack of a better word. i've narrowed it down to my front wheel as it spins... when i lift the wheel off the ground and set it into motion i hear a creaking or tinking...cant necessarily tell if it is rhythmic or not...i thought it may be the spokes...i squeezed the corresponding spokes together to see if any ahd been moved out of place.what should i do?

check the headset for being loose, check the front axle bolts for being loose, then take it to a bike shop.

sounds to me like your front hub may need repacking / adjusting. my rear hub was recently making a ticking sound. just repacked and cleaned - new bearings and grease. dead silent.

the wheels are practically new...i got hit by a car in may ona different bike while still building this one. while i do ride at the very least a few miles daily i've probably only been riding the bike since late june or july

new wheels doesn't mean hubs or spokes come from the factory adjusted correctly or they could have loosened up in a few months. or if you ride in sloppy weather water could have seeped into your hub. its hard to diagnose but if you have it narrowed to a spinning front wheel - that'd be my guess.

I too have a bike with this strange creak/tinking? I've done all the above and then some and it's still doing it! :twitchy: been three years now!

make sure spokes are tight.

If you lock up the front brake and pull/push the bike forward & back, does it *ping*? Thats the typical loose headset. More common than most other issues, too.

dude read the original post: he says "when i lift the front wheel off the ground and set it into motion i hear a creaking or tinking"

meaning if his front wheel is off the ground and its making noise its got nothing to do with the headset.
