removing a link from my chain

I'm planning to remove a link from my chain after getting a new frame and was wondering if that would change the amount of skid patches I have I;m running 48 16 and can only get one, so I just don't skid that much... but I like to and just wish it wouldn't eat my tires so quick...

Change gear ratio to change skid patches. 1T in the chainring will make less difference than 1T on the cog regarding your ratio. Play with the online calculators for skid patches. Removing 1 chain link won't do a thing.

yeah the links in your chain have nothing to do with it... however switch your rear cog from a 16t to a 17t and you go from 1 skid patch to 17... just to think about.

I like my gear ratio where it is... but may switch for the winter... but skidding really isnt top priority...

47x16 or 49x16 would be a much smaller change in ratio and would each give you 16 skid patches.

well your gear ratio is 3:1, so unless you change either the cog or the chainring up or down a tooth, you are only ever going to have one skidpatch.

that said, you can rotate your skidpatch by simply loosening the rear and rotating the wheel (or crank) a little without moving the other... or when you replace a flat rotate the tire a little.
