Adjustable or Sprung Tensioner?

Hey all,

I'm currently converting a bike with vertical dropouts to single speed. I have found the option of two tensioning systems: one is adjustable with the chain running over a little (mostly orange for some reason) wheel. The other keeps the tension with a spring in the tensioner and the chain runs over a small toothed gear.

I'm wondering what the pros and cons are for each of these systems. Those of you who have a vertical dropout bike converted, what did you use?

Both systems are the same price, just need to try and make a decision!

Cheers.

I have the dmr tensioner, which has a red wheel, so if thats teh one you're talking about its not orange. DDO NOT PLZ DO NOT GET A SPRUNG tensioner, b/c they break easily and they just suck. Not worth the extra weight. The fixed tensioner is the most secure and will last you much longer and for cheaper.

The Rennen is one of the best tensioners around http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/151...-Tensioner.htm

Also you can get the sette chain tensioner, the rebranded pricepoint of a cheapo (but still good) tensioner. http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/170...-Tensioner.htm
It's all black and cool and stuff.

use a magic gear.

Cheers shubonker, I think I will go with the roller tensioner then. This is for a urban/jump bike so I would prefer it to be the stronger of the two.

I thought about using a magic gear, but I'd rather not have to mess around with gearing when the kit I will buy has the gearing I would like to use.

Thanks.
