I got a creak.
My bike never makes noise. But now it is. Ugh.
My left crank makes noise, once per revolution. It's not the chainring bolts; they're snug. My crank is not loose on the spindle; I've made sure the bolt is tight. It's either the interface between the crank & the bb spindle (square taper... may have rounded the hole a little... it wiggles a hair), or the bb itself. Have to take it apart now and see. Good thing I don't mind working on bikes. Buying parts, on the other hand, I can do without. Don't care? Don't read. |
same here d00d. I usually tighten my chainring bolts and it'll go away, temporarily though. I need better ones. but I'm also gonna tighten my bb. just need to get a hold of a crank puller ehh
|
the sounds is probably coming from your pedal. add grease, re-tighten.
|
i concur, it's the pedal
|
I dunno, I don't think it's the pedal. I've grabbed ahold of the pedal and the crank and tried to move them against each other.... no sounds or movement. Exerting pressure against the crank arm, relative to the bb (opposite crank, really, i guess, if you catch my driftttttt), however, makes the sound. So, I think it's the crank/spindle interface.

click
I had to replace my bb within a year or purchase. Sram rival. Clicked on the left pedal.
The shop went through a lot of useless measures before determining the bb was bad. Tricky things these noises. |
Yeah, that's what I'm gonna look at first I think. I've been riding on this cheapie bb for a year and a half now, brakeless, and I'm about 185, so.......
Also, thank you for touching me with your noodly appendage. |
if your cranks are loose even a hair, stop riding on them and take them to your LBS immediately. riding loose cranks is a surefire way to destroy them.
then again, if you're looking for an excuse to upgrade.... |
I had the same problem. It didn't end up being my drive train. It was my saddle.
I removed the saddle, used a towel to wipe off any dirt on the rails and seatpost, then greased the rails and never had any creaking since |
Is it a sealed bb?
What do you mean the crank moved a hair on the spindle? |
remove and regrease bb.
|
^ Yep. Add plenty of grease to the threads between the BB and frame, and make sure it's torqued properly.
|
I say remove and regrease pedals first.
Takes a minute and you don't want to change the BB to find out the creak is still there. |
I had a creaking noise that happened once every rotation and then realized it was my shoe rubbing against the crank arm. It's a real pain sometimes, but at least my crank and bb aren't messed up and I could always just change shoes.
