36-hole rim bonanza festival!
I bought a set of IRO high-flange hubs from the bargain bin yesterday, with expected delivery next week, and have been looking into what rims I should get to accompany them. It seems like 36-hole hoops are getting harder to find, but I still haven't gone into my LBS and looked through catalogs, just browsed on the internet. I was planning on having a rear Velocity Fusion with a front Velocity Aerohead, but when you get into the higher spoke counts your options seem to change around a bit. I figured since I'm going with a high spoke count I may as well get a low-profile rim and end up with an understated, classy wheel set.
So far I'm looking at Velocity Aeros, Aeroheads, and Fusions as well as Sun CR-18s. Not really interested in Open Pros, since I'm hoping to keep costs down somewhat. Anything else out there that I should know about with a 36-hole drilling?

I just last night picked up my Ambrosio Excellight SSC's in 36H for my bargain bin IRO hubs too...... weird.

Yeah, those VO rims looked off to me. I liked the idea, but they looked really tall for a box section...

If you pick up some sun CR-18s you'd probably be able to break the frame before tacoing that rim. Those ****ers are indestructable.

If you're looking for something cheap, the M13 II by Sun isn't bad.
If you're into tubs and willing to wait a bit, I love the campy record crono rims.

Too narrow for my taste. I wouldn't feel secure riding wider tires (i.e. 30mm and up). That's actually what I expect for most rims these days, but I would have thought VO would source something more compatible with beefy tires, like what they themselves are selling.

Reading back over the thread title as I was clicking on it I realized how it could be construed to sound sort of dirty. Oops.
PS, I was walking downtown a few minutes ago and saw some Velocity Aeros on a Milwaukee frame, and it was the classiest thing ever. I need those rims now.

I had a set of 36h CR-18s and they were really nice. I ran 35's and 38 on them...only downside is that they are a bit of a pain to get tires on and off of

I recall the PBP (Paris-Brest-Paris) were designed to take the 28mm tires that most people use on said sporting event. Yeah, it's a bit small, but I'm sure 32mm would fit just fine, if a little less round. And if you do want wider, well the sun CR-18 is a damn good rim

I have Mavic a319s laced to Surly hubs [via universal cycles]. I'm pretty heavy and ride on some rough streets, go off curbs, etc. I've only had them 2 months but they're still true. The max rim pressure is only 100psi though, which is fine since I run 28mm Armadillos (also the minimum tire width on the rims).

Mavic's A319 and A719 are great rims and beefy as **** though you you do pay for it with that bit of added weight. I would confidently do small stair drops on my 36 hole A719 rear wheel.

I would like to place another vote for CR-18's. These can take a serious pounding.
