Umm, Hayward is far from safe and has way more crime than most Easy Bay cities. Ride your bike down Mission after dark and you will see many gang bangers on foot or in car just looking for something/someone to steal stuff. And I used to go back to Chicago every qtr. for business...yeah, you could not pay me enough to live in that city...take a wrong turn in S. Chicago and they will come right over to your car and try to open the doors. I'm sure every city has their high crime areas though, but I can only speak to Chicago as my least favorite.

rode from a friends house off tennyson back up to my place on upper "B" street (an actuall pretty decent part of town, for the NYC hater). it was probably around 10:30. scariest ride of my life.

I had a night class. I got out at about 9:00pm and found someone else's bike right where mine used to be.

It was a Pake that i had had bought a little over two weeks ago, it was almost all brand new parts except the seat and the wheels.

Today I looked in a near by trash can and found this

looks like the work of bolt cutters

I live in SUCH a low crime area that carrying two locks just seems like such a hassle.

1 Krypto Evo Mini, Sheldon locked every time, everywhere (no quick releases). I live in Memphis, which sucks if you don't like getting murdered, but no one here gives a **** about bikes.

I read somewhere that thieves don't usually carry both cable cutters and bolt cutters. I might be wrong, don't trust me on that. But if i had to carry two NY fuggeddaboutit locks would be tooo heavy on top of the other things I carry. I would do a really good U-lock + a cable.

Since you actually have the lock, and if you registered your lock, when you purchased it.
You might be eligible for the "Anti theft program"
