I am familiar with East Bay and CSU, sure. What's the deal with big bad scary Hayward? Seems downright middle class and safe to me -- hardly a crime-filled area like you seem to be insinuating it is. I'd feel safer locking up there than in many places in SF, NYC, Chicago, Philly...where bike and component theft are quite high and common.

rode from a friends house off tennyson back up to my place on upper "B" street (an actuall pretty decent part of town, for the NYC hater). it was probably around 10:30. scariest ride of my life.

I alread said that I use 2 u locks, but I was embarassed to say that I also sometime schlep the krypto chian along as well... The whole kit weighs about as much as the bike, but...
Sh*t, theyre gonna get it anyway if they really want it. I just dont want to give it away.

1 Krypto Evo Mini, Sheldon locked every time, everywhere (no quick releases). I live in Memphis, which sucks if you don't like getting murdered, but no one here gives a **** about bikes.

I read somewhere that thieves don't usually carry both cable cutters and bolt cutters. I might be wrong, don't trust me on that. But if i had to carry two NY fuggeddaboutit locks would be tooo heavy on top of the other things I carry. I would do a really good U-lock + a cable.
