ok these are the bars i want
hi i want some bars that are like bullhorns, and also like moustache bars.
i.e. i want a flat section in the middle by the stem, a curved towards me section like bent MTN bars, and a forward drop section like bullhorns. anyone make bars like these? I did a crude drawing in MSPaint which I will try to post. thanks for the help... ben |

I want them too, let me know if you find any :)
I'll have a look round the web, see what I can find. |
yeah they seem f...ing great: a couple good close positions plus a good forward position. let's make a million, er, a hundred bucks. i don't often use my drops, but these would have more positions than cut off drops

don't the old mavic bars look something like that?
or am i thinking of something completely different? fsnl sparky |
Good idea for a h/bar!
I would contact Grant Peterson at Rivendell Bicycle Works and see if he can get Nitto to manufacture them. Not sure if they would be popular enough but it would certainly be worth a try. |

These are Nitto Moustache bars, pretty close you what you want, but with a narrower straight section in the middle. http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/images/nittonorthrd.jpg This is Nitto's North Road bar, more of a drop than the Moustaches, and the ends are angled outwards more, and straighter. http://rivendellbicycles.com/images/catpics/16-127.jpg This is the Nitto Albatross, pretty much the same as the North Road, but with less drop I think. http://rivendellbicycles.com/images/catpics/16-122.jpg Finally, there is this, which is either the Dove or the Chromo version of the Albatross (Rivendell use the same pic for both on their site). I think these four are as close as you're gonna find off the hook, unless there are some wierd tandem or comfort bars that I haven't found. Obviously they're all designed to be used the other way round, and might need some trimming or even bending to get them spot-on, but it's either that or make your own. Thanks to SJS Cycles, Harris Cyclery and Rivendell for the pics. |

The 15degree one drops about 2 inches and 5 degree drops about 1 inch. Regardless of the drop and width the backsweep is between 20-25mm. I have 2 of these both in 5d and 15d and they are very comfortable and do not look awkward. Because of their unique shape the brake lever that fits best (in case you decide to use a brake) is the syntace space control lever. |

The back curve is not apparent from most pictures, but you will get the idea in this pictures (http://www.trisports.com/synstratzer.html). It also curves a little inward in the straight region where you put your hands on, which is very comfortable on the wrist.

the Tsunami is the same shape as the stratos? i.e., there's a backsweep and drop? question about price referred to the stratos bar ($50)

i think i'll probably get the tsunami from chucks and see how i like that...hey it's only ten bucks, and if i don't like it, i can trade it for a cog or something. btw, i spent two weeks in montreal for the jazz festival...what a fun city to bike in! j'aime montreal. I only saw maybe one or two fixie riders though. g_taco : are they 26.0 diameter? |

check out these moustaches from vandessel: bottom of the page http://vandesselsports.com/accessories.shtml#ffw
the ends of the bars look like they extend out further from the stem mount than the nitto ones do. so flip these backwards and bend those long ends upward and you have an interesting set of handlebars. they have no drop at all though. might have to run a longer stem to be able to use the inside curve position. climbing would be easy with these bars but squeezing through cars would not be fun. |
How has no-one posted this yet:http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2004/d/bentsen.htm
They don't have turned up ends, but other than that they look perfect (to me at least). Love the orange bar tape too. |
Here's an old photo of my Albatross-type bar which has been chopped at the ends and flipped.
