I know the ball of your foot typically goes over the center of the pedal, I am not stupid. I also know I don't ride like that, again, not stupid.

I have ridden with those for months now, I am not ripping anything out of my feet or shoes, it's called not being a p*ssy. I have strength in my feet and legs, and use it.

I have ridden an 80 mile day with these, with frequent 20 mile rides, it isn't "killer" on anything. I wouldn't use them if it was.

I did not design them to eliminate overlap. The bike was a 57cm, it had no overlap and I know how to ride, even if it did have overlap it wouldn't have bothered me.

After my bike got stolen, the thief broke the clips off (ya ya, ha ha, he know what he was doing, can't make a joke if I already ruined it), I have now been riding for 2 months without any clips, I rode 6 months before ever having clips, and I'm still here.

It's not the end of the world to not have mks clips and toshi doubles. It's not going to get me hit by cars if I can't pull up on the pedal while slowing down. I don't need safety tips, I have been around long enough to here em all and recognize that I am plenty safe without your advice.

I also know that they do make it easier to pedal quicker and with more control. I will be getting another set of clips in the future when I have money, which I don't right now.

well if anyone cares, I got some of these straps a while ago

after a month of using them i'm still very happy. they've stretched a bit, but there's plenty of extra holes left to use (teehee) so you might have to just tighten them a notch every so often. they feel really secure, i've had my foot almost slip out of my mks doubles more than these. they also took well to the rain, as i rode through a pretty big storm we had here using these. the leather isn't brittle or nasty after that rain either.

i think I paid 60 for mine, and i think it's a good deal. I wouldn't mind using these to replace my mks doubles if those ever fail. note that the brown ones are the thickest leather. the black ones were a good bit thinner. so order brown haha. I'll keep giving my opinion of these though as time passes.

this is the first post in 4 pages of posts to actually have a 1st hand user review of the straps in question. I am amazed.

ya, it's where regardless of how nice my clips/straps are, my legs get tired after riding hard, so I just ted stop. It takes no energy, no effort, and is way faster than locking up my legs and sliding cause I can do it while seated with all my weight over my rear tire.

Seriously I don't lock up my tire with back pressure ever anymore. i slow down with it sometimes if I just need to decelerate, but if I am stopping I almost always just slam my back wheel. It's so much easier.

stretch doesn't bother me though, i mean straps are adjustable. once they stretch out a bit, i'll just tighten them a bit.

what i dislike is slip. my soma doubles had this in spades. I go to pull hard upwards and the strap just lets go and next thing i know my straps look like a *****'s vagina gaping wide open and my foot has slipped out. no matter how tight i set those straps and even tucked the straps back into the buckle, they still slipped to the point of them being completely useless as straps. the buckle system on these plemons makes sure that there is no slip. i mean, if there's slip, you're tearing through the holes.

This is actually the part I'm worrying about when thinking about any kinds of straps with buckles. How are the holes holding up?

couldn't you add rivets or something of the sort to the holes to create a metal edge around them. Could make em stronger and less prone to tearing.

the leather is thick on my brown straps. the hole that the piece of metal was hooking through doesn't look any bigger than any of the other unused holes. i've only been using it for a month though, but it's been holding up to daily use very well so far.

I use my strength for forward movement, not reverse. I average 22 mph around town, 20 miles per day, which I am sure isn't the fastest or longest, but is quick and far enough for me to not always want to be slowing down with reverse pressure. And since I don't have any clips/straps right now, it really isn't very effective to use back pressure to slow down.

And cool you heard about a guy that can't ride. I have been using this method of stopping since I started to ride, and guarantee you it is quicker than any other stopping method but brakes (I actually tested it against my friend on a road bike, and from 15-0 mph it took me an extra 2 feet). I learned the stop from the man himself and would say I am pretty damn effective at using it.

No wonder you get too tired to skip-skid if your feet can't step on the correct part of the pedal, and your clips barely cover your feet, so you must be having to grip into the clips with your toes.

So you jam your foot in the rear wheel???

ya, but I know how to do it, so i lock up the rear wheel, not just let it slide across my shoe and wear it out. And as I said before, I don't have any clips right now. So resisting the pedal with no up pressure isn't very effective. Not that I really feel the need to justify how I ride to anyone here.

That's what I was running until recently. It worked just fine, but you're right they do slide around a bit. It was annoying when trying to adjust them to fit different shoes, but something you could easily live with.

That home depot clip/strap deal is just ridiculous. I'm a fan of good worthwhile DIY projects, keywords being "good" and "worthwhile." Gave me a good laugh though.
