trek t1, jamis sputnik, or cannondale capo?
 

I should test all the bikes out and see which I prefer but i'm looking for some input and how they stack up against each other. this is mainly going to be ridden on the street.

im mainly looking at the 2010 t1 (08/09 if I find one for a good price), 09 or 08 sputnik, and the 08 capo. fuji track, surly steamroller, bianchi pista concept and iro's are some other bikes that I've considered.

Trek T1. It's the secks.

add Motobecane Team Track to your short list, I should have mine in about 2-3 weeks and will certainly post a review for it.

t1 out of those for sure, but i too would get the mtt

Having ridden both a T1 and a Capo, I'd say go for the Capo. The Trek sucks really bad for the street because it's so stiff and any ride over 30 miles will beat you up. The Capo is a much smarter choice for the street in terms of comfortable long distance rides. I've done 60 mile rides on it with no complaints. The Trek has quicker handling than the Capo, but that's the only thing it has on the Capo.

I'd also throw in a vote for a IRO or Steamroller since they'll give you a little more comfort, but won't be as light. I've heard nothing but good tings about the Sputnik also

The Capo has more of a road bike geo. right? It's not as pretty as the Trek and that's all that matters

Not as good looking, yes, but more comfy the Capo is. Here were my setups with them

I'd also throw in a vote for anything BD does not make since I think it's important to support actual bike companies who design things rather than "the steamroller is popular, we're going to make a copy of that. When we're done, we're going to copy the FUJI Track Pro as well". FWIW I've never heard of BD sponsoring an alleycat, bike event, bicycle film festival, movie, or anything really. Their bikes are fine (they should be, they're copies of other bikes that have been very successful) but they're pretty much the parasites of the bike market.

Having said that, if you're into long days on the bike, something less track geometry will suit you very well. If you just want something really fast to ride for short distances, something like a T1 could be a lot of fun. From your list through, I think the Sputnik looks like the best bike, being made of high quality tubing and having a geometry I'm more attracted to than super steep track setups

sputnik without a doubt. everything about it is great, from the design to the execution and materials. Also, it's made by a great company that will back you up should anything go wrong. It is one of the softest bikes I have ever ridden due to the combination of 631 and CF fork. The geo is comfy so you can stay in the saddle all day, too.

i vote capo! only because i have one. actually the sputnik is really nice. my gf has one, i rode it for a while. really comfy.

Sputnik looks a lot like the 2009 Genesis flyer. Has the same dropouts, steel frame and carbon fork!

My friend had one of those, they are nice too. But the bars on the Sputnik look nicer than the Genesis.

i'm now on the edge between the capo and the Sputnik...and still a little for the t1.

i guess i'll just call up my LBS' and test ride em. though i most likely will jump on any of them if the price is too good to pass up.

F^(k Trek (but I’m bias as you can see in my signature below) the concept will have great resale years from now, surly’s is a good bike and the Fuji track pro for performance (on the track that is) I believe is above the rest. Regardless though ride them and pick the one that rides the best to you and then consider the one that looks the best to you. Who gives a rats a$$ what other people think it’s going to be your bike not theirs.

Has anyone ever asked Mike to sponsor an event? Just wondering, since he's one of the most approachable company owners in the bike industry, and I know quite a few.

T1: You're not likely to find a good deal on one. The '09s are the last of the made in the USA frames, '10s will be manufactured offshore and are being released at a substantially lower MSRP. They might be marked down from 09 prices, but check on price and availability timing on the '10 model for comparison. The new black paint job is sweet, but the Chi Red rocks as well, especially with the fade on the fork. Also: check the chainline...

sputnik as well.

basically a road bike with track ends. can't beat the comfort of steel. having done back to back centuries on chipseal roads on mine, i promise you that it is well-suited to extended saddle time.

not sure what 'on the street' use means to you, but if it entails bad roads and/or extended saddle time, i sure wouldn't be looking at OS aluminum.

set back the t1 and it should ride just as well as the capo.

i love my sputnik. its so comfy on long rides. there are a few little feature that makes the bike so much more worth it.
