Good Selection of Parts?

I'm trying to help my friend buy parts for his bike.

Since I don't know anything about bikes can anyone tell me if all these parts will work together?
And if there is any other choices, looking to spend below $200. (Not counting frame, saddle, and bars)

Don't really know if I'm missing anything since his will be a conversion, and I bought my bike off BD.

I am getting it for a friend of mine, because you know I do have friends.
I just bought a brand new Kilo TT off BD, and it hasn't even come in yet but my friend wants to get a bike so he can ride with me and my other friend.

you should tell him to do the same thing as you. kilo's are a great buy. the problem with conversions is when you get used to riding fixed then jump on a real track bike, you dont wanna go back to the limo geometry. anyway yea those parts are sufficient for a conversion.

I told him to just get a bike of BD, but right now he doesn't want to spend too much money.

He says he just wants something that he can ride around with, without having to worry about messing it up/having it get stolen.

He already has an old frame that he wants to work with, so he might as well.

Tell his cheap ass to save 98 more bucks and get a motobecane off bd it's like 297

alexgate 11-05-09 02:34 AM

hell spend more on the conversion, unless he is smart. Sounds like hes not.

I think this thread may have talked him into getting the Windsor Hour from BD, since its on sale right now.

Is it a good bike?
How would it compare to my Mercier?

Tell him to get either a Motobecane Track, Schwinn Cutter, or Schwinn Exit. Each can be found for under $280 shipped brand new.

Motobecane Track for $280

Should he get this?

Scrodzilla 11-05-09 07:17 AM

I would say yes. As alexgate said, your friend will more than likely end up spending more that that on his conversion when all's said and done (regardless of his intelligence level).

Get it from BD, though (if they have it in stock). Free shipping.

edit: just realized it ends up being the same price.
