Source for rear wheel (only)
I need to get a rear wheel built up for my new build, and I've got two options..
I can tear down a road rear wheel (40mm carbon fairing, alu rim) and rebuild it with the American classic 24H hub & Sapim CX ray, or I can pick up a new rear wheel.
I'm thinking that a new rear would likely be cheaper.
Anyone aware of rear-only fixed wheels that have formula or better hubs in the 150 price range? A good compromise between weight & aero would be nice, and the bike will have the carbon rears twin up front.

I like to get my wheels from one of a couple local shops that can hand build them to my specs, you should be able to find a good shop locally who can build whatever you need and build it stronger than a similar build from a machine or a less meticulous builder.
For super strong a 3 cross fixed/fixed formula laced to an Alex DA28 will be about as good as it gets and cheaper than a DeepV. A lot of local wheelbuilders or guys I race with who work on the bike swear by those rims. Lighter than a deepV as well

Those are the ones however that's for a complete wheelset and a fixed/free hub. A custom build could be done with double butted spokes as well which I've never tried but hear great things about

Yeah, issue being that my local shop charges 40 per wheel for the labor.
At that rate, just the rear would probably cost me more. I might email them and see if they can get just a rear for me.
fix/fix would be preferable too, I agree.

If you're interested in the options that going custom gets you, you might consider getting a cheapo wheel truing rig together and doing it yourself. You could do it for 80 or so, for a truing stand and dishing tool, if you shopped around and didn't mind consumer grade stuff. A fixed rear wheel is very easy to build because it's got no dish. You very likely won't save money doing it this way (in either the short term or the long term), and it will be a bunch of work, but you will wind up with exactly what you want and develop a useful skill to boot.
