Toe Straps?

Need some help, what is my best bed aside from Toshi's? One step down maybe?
I have about 80 bucks to spend and I'm getting some MKS GR-9 pedals and whatever straps that are quality but not 60 damn dollars.

ALSO!

Anyone have any experience with these things?
I thought they looked pretty beneficial, is there anything else like it?

Oh I remember seeing those, thank you.

Haha... best bed. My bad.

Biffle 11-09-09 09:01 PM

no problem bro

I don't really understand the purpose of that brake thing. If you're looking to save $ don't waste it on that thing.

WoundedKnee 11-09-09 09:11 PM

So you can use the front brake from either side if you don't have one of your hands free, I guess, right?

preston811 11-09-09 09:24 PM

well yeah, but I dunno, my hands are always free lol, I just don't see the need for it. PS I'd get metal cages they're not that much more. They don't need to be quad gate or even double gate. I just use these with soma double straps. My next straps will probably be those wabi's.

Toshi's end of story... You'll end up buying more straps when yours breaks just get toshi's don't be cheap

In before someone chimes in about clipless being better.

WoundedKnee 11-09-09 09:43 PM

I have those metal cages already. It's just that my current straps are, drive side: handcrafted twine braid by my girlfriend and left side: some shoelaces I rigged up after the twine broke.

Anyways, now I have 30 bucks. Hmm.

toshi singles if you're looking to save.

WoundedKnee 11-09-09 10:18 PM

Singles are still 60 bucks dood.

nylon straps/plastic double gates. Set so you can tighten them and loosen them while riding. Probably works just as good/better than most expensive set and forget methods. This is just my opinion after riding this setup for about a week... sooo yeah. Idk, I would say just buy a $10 set up see how it works for you, if you want to upgrade get the exhausters(wabi cycles) people seem to like them.

Not my favorite setup but for a solid foot retention system bmx platforms and hold fast straps will work as good or better than much more expensive combos. total cost ~20 for the pedals and ~50 I think for the straps. I have tried them both and the hold fast system works better than sylvans with soma quad gate clips and all city doubles. Doesn't look as nice and pedal strike is more of an issue but it is the most cost effective system.

Other than the one I just mentioned.

I paid about $20 for my entire pedal/toe clip set up shipped.

robotphood 11-10-09 01:58 AM

Since you don't have the money, save up or get the Exustars from wabicycles for $38 shipped. You won't get anything better for the money. Don't waste your money on anything less. People spend money on more expensive straps because they last longer and perform better. In the long run, you'll most likely end up spending more on multiple sets of crappy straps when one quality set will last just as long if not longer.

Get back to us after you've had the setup for more than a week. If you have to replace it in a couple of monhs than toshi are still more cost effective. Also, I've been using the hold fast setup for a few months now and it is better than when I got it. Again, let us know about your $20 setup in a few months, I'll be interested to know what you think then.

TheBikeRollsOn 11-10-09 09:00 AM

Fair enough, but I've been using the set same stuff for like 3-4 months, but I just started actually using my straps the right way.

I hate bicycles 11-10-09 11:10 AM
