Now Let's talk mm

Okay dudes and bros, here's a puzzler. Who makes a cyclocross-style brake lever that will fit the bulgy 25.4 mm part in the center of a set of handlebars, rather than further out on the flats were it's thinnner. I want to mount a lever right next to the stem so it doesn't interfere with my hand positioning. Any leads?

I believe Paul Components has one that's 31.8.

I could be wrong, but I believe the Salsa cyclocross levers will work just fine, they have shims that allow them to be installed in a couple different areas, mine are mounted right up against my stem and they fit great.

I had to buy two of them actually so if you want the other you can e-mail me, I should have it sitting around somewhere!

nyc bikes, although a pain in the ass to deal with has a bunch of customised mtb levers. They routed out the clamp to make it slide futher up on the handlebar. My lever is right up next to the stem. They are over priced though, tektro levers and 15 bucks a pop, but they know they can get it...worth the money if you need the part

Salsa levers do indeed work in that application.

Allow me to take this question a little further. Hows about ones that have a hinge type fastening set up such that you don't have to remove bar tape and/or you can easily take on and off depending on weather you need the brake or not?

Thanks for all the great responses.

I think the paul components 26.0 mm cyclocross lever (not the 31.8mm) is hinged, and thus can be taken off without removing bar tape.

I have an IRD lever on my bike, mounted right next to my stem.

Apparently they're kind of expensive. It came with my second-hand bike, so I'm not sure how much it cost originally. The lever has a hinged clamp, so its real easy to switch to brakeless when i'm feeling macho.

once again, the salsa levers are hinged so you dont have to remove the bartape..., maybe I should go get a job for salsa

dgs 08-04-04 03:38 PM

Okay, okay, you're in love with Salsa; we get it! Sheesh. :)

jfmckenna 08-04-04 09:31 PM

hey dgs if you don't want that spare lever from j3rmz let me know cause I'm thinkin about it...

dgs 08-04-04 09:42 PM

It's all yours...
