Cetma rack clearance question
quick cetma rack (5 rail) question, ive got a 50cm kilo with deep nitto b123 drops where the drop ends overlap the top tip/rim of my front wheel. will i have clearance issues mounting cetma rack? would i have to switch to... risers??
|
are your drops less than 28cm center to center?
|
Generally speaking, big porteur style racks work best with swept back bars. If your bars curve to far forward (think any drops, not just deep track drops) they will interfere with the cargo area, greatly diminishing the carrying ability of the rack.

I have a 3 Rail Cetma, and used it with drops on my bike. It does limit you to what you can carry, its its more than a soft load like a bag or something like that. I switched to Northroad bars and its perfect now.

can a three rail handle a case of bottled beers?

i dont need to carry huge stuff, just my fully-loaded backpack. i thought about it and i think its more practical and versatile to use risers with the rack. the drops would just block the sideways clearance for wide loads.

wow, the Cetma racks sit a lot further forward than I remember, even furthur from the steering axis. In fact they seem to violate the two laws of front rack mounting (low to the tire, and close to the fork crown) almost every time.
and those photos don't exactly disprove my point, but I'll throw in my own, http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_wcOnQ-ygzE...820091642a.jpg The rack help up fine, but I couldn't fit any more bags underneath the handlebars. Also, handling was a little off |
