a couple manhattan critical mass tips:

- the cops have to be able to physically grab you or box you in to give you a ticket. always keep an eye on them because they can sneak up on you. STAY AWAY (at least 10-20 feet at all times) from the cops.

- the cops ride alongside the mass on motor scooters and typically one or two undercover cop cars (with their lights on). the scooter cops usually "escort" the ride and may be friendly - BUT DON'T GET NEAR THEM! they can flip quickly and grab you at any moment.

just for riding in the street?
i may skip it, then. i'm currently working as an ADA, i don't need to get jammed up over a bike ride.

Im all into bikes and am sympathetic to activism, but I dont understand critical mass.
I have watched alot of video from the rides and can assume that some of the "members" of these rides are really just looking for trouble!

Bikes, freedom of assembly, protest... AWESOME.

But, taunting police and frustrating the general public with no goal in mind... ********.
...Also, bad for bicyclists.

I seriously hate cops so much. I feel like they are helpful about 5% of the time when something serious does happen, but mostly are just a nuisance to the public. Serve and protect my a**

I would hope that would happen to me in a critical mass so I could sue the state and make some bank. Unprovoked assault by a police officer. That being said I no longer ride in the local critical mass because I do feel too many of the cyclists are just trying to annoy drivers without proving a point.

i might go if i can get a few of my buddies to go. i only been to one critical mass. seems like if you just ride with your lights and dont do anything stupid, you wont get ticketed. just have some lights on your bike and stay away from them. most of the tickets get thrown out anyway. they just do it to scare the riders.

Is Pat Pogan still a Cop???? Tht to me looked like Assult with intent to cause injury....Felony in my state. I sure hope that rookie cop got fired over this and convicted of some type of crime.
