I came across this website, https://www.bertellibici.com which looks to be the site for a guy in New York who builds very classy custom fixed gears.

So I thought we can use this thread to post links to other websites of those who do custom builds. I'm sure there must be many others out there. Try to keep them unique (i.e. no links to bikes direct)

lame. unless you're building a frame you have no talent or skill. most fixie riders I know could build those bikes if they had the parts

Yeah your paying the man to find the parts and assemble the bike. Those bikes are ****ing amazing and to say he has no talent is kind of harsh. Yeah most people can assemble the bike. Maybe, just maybe, this guy likes to build bikes and what is wrong with that? Selling this assembly as a service is a way for a person to build, er sorry, assemble bikes all the time without going bankrupt and maybe make a few on the side.

So he charges a minimum of $1,500.00, then rides your bike before shipping it to you. Someone please ask him what that one day encompasses. Is it a full day of riding, or just to a cafe for coffee and a sandwich? Sorry, but this is like having someone build you your very own rat rod.

LOL wow, I should have known this thread would spin off into other subjects, mostly centered around hating. Oh well, it's amusing. However I'd still like this thread to focus on finding other custom build sites that offer high quality bikes.

I wasn't asking for opinions on if I should buy a bike from this guy or not, so let's not nit pick about their skills or services. However, just to defend him a little, his bikes do look to be of high quality. Each frame is a track frame with horizontal drop outs, so it's not like he is just converting any old road frame like most of us do (me). Also, it looks like his artistic vision goes into building each bike, not at all just a quick build for anyone who wants to buy. I'm sure he gets requests and or builds for people who can afford it. They don't look like bikes just any kid in down town would buy.

So, any other sites out there??

This guy fills a void. My hat goes off to him. There are plenty of turds rolling around the streets these days. Lots of folks don't know how to pull the aesthetics of a bike together with the right parts. A lot of people don't know what's out there.

What percentage of folks building bikes on this forum know:

Hey, there are wedding planners, career planners, guidance counselors, coaches, advisors...this guy does the same thing. It's just for a different market. But it's definitely not for the Broke-Forums crowd, I'm sure.

I think his bikes are mostly about aesthetics, but that doesn't mean they're not meant to be appreciated. Sure, they've got a limited market, but so do Lambourghinis and the like.

On a happier note, I decided to make a wallpaper with one of his photos:

why would he use a keirin brake on a frame that can have a drilled fork? On their own site, Alien says they can drill the fork for a small additional fee. Why put cheap wheels on bikes with nice frames? Why not use plugs or *god forbid* tape on any bars? It all seems kinda ridiculous to me. since when did building a bike become so difficult and laborious that you have to pay someone to do it for you?

I can appreciate what this fellow is doing, and i definitely dig his taste. At the same time, it is, essentially, PURCHASING taste... for those that lack the ability to discern what composes a tastefuly built bike, and what does not. It is not difficult, and much more rewarding, to dig around for exactly what YOU want. I don't really give two ****s about the majority of opinions floating around out there, but kind words are always appreciated. when someone compliments my bike, i do appreciate it, as it is a compliment to my taste. it would seem that the people shopping for these bikes are doing so for aesthetic reasons. this would imply digging for compliments. in turn, any compliments received would be meaningless to anyone but the "bike assembler" or whatever ridiculous, try-hard name he's given himself.

Built up ALIEN FRAMES starting at 1500 dollars? You'd have to be brain damaged to buy one of these. Not that they don't look sharp, and not that aliens aren't solid frames, but you can get an honest to goodness actual custom build for that price

Hey, man, everybody can't be good at everything. If you are good at making a sweet looking show bike, then awesome for you. Everyone isn't. If someone wants a nice looking bike that's unique without racking his brain and scouring every bike shop plus the internet for nice stuff then maybe they'll call this guy.

That being said, why would someone want a "nice looking" bike? If someone wants a bike at all, it should be because they want to RIDE a bike... not because they want to be SEEN on a nice bike. Why would you need "nice" stuff, if you know nothing about it and what makes it "nice"? The foundation of this guy's entire target niche includes sheer superficiality... are you saying that is something worth defending? If someone likes bikes, they should dive right in and buy a bike. BUT there is absolutely no reason for these uniformed shoppers to desire these specific bikes outside of an attempt at some sort of "status" in the bike world. i think that is pretty.. shallow... if you will.
