Despite all of our better judgment, OP opted to build that fixed.

^^^^^^^^ FACE PALM. why do people do that? that frame will never ever be built up as it should be. for $400 he could have gotten a decent TRACK frame. I paid $500 for my Zullo and that is a handmade italian track frame made with columbus sl tubing and campy dropouts.

Weird coincidence; I bought my white Panasonic frameset from Dave Hickey at roadbikereview.

I built up a beautiful Italvega as a fixed gear. Never fit me right so I sold it but it was a great bike. Columbus steel, no braze ons, made a perfect conversion. Nice chrome lugs.

Don't let anyone tell you not to build whatever bike you want as a fixed gear. Cut off the braze ons and the shifter mounts just to piss them off. I hate when people try and dictate what others do with old frames. Just use it the way you want. Old quality steel frames make great fixed gears.

If the OP were asking if he should buy a track bike or an old road bike, your point would be relevant.

And then when you decide you don't want it anymore and want to sell it, stare at your shoes as you shyly admit you damaged your frame without thinking ahead, for no logical reason. But you're right, **** what other people say- you're never wrong, no one should listen to anybody but themselves... which means we shouldn't listen to you. Great advice.

If you want 'clean lines' scrape your pennies together and buy a purpose build track frame. You'll thank yourself later when you get over **** and decide road bikes are cool too. That being said, all of this talk is really in regard to frames of quality, not your 'first bike' schwinn suburban. Everyone needs to learn on something but most informed people would agree it probably doesn't need to be a colnago.

then why buy a bike that is trying to be a track bike?

why do vegetarians eat veggie burgers? why do Jews eat turkey bacon? whats the deal with fake leather?

I'm getting pissed off enough at these 'too nice to convert' people that I say buy it, drew the **** out of it and deck it out with risers and pink Oury grips, a red aerospoke and a seat tube mounted brake lever.

I'd do it myself if I had the cash.

i would go halves. ( i actually have an aerospoke laying around from back when my family tested their wheels for tandem use)

very nice! that's a 'super speciale', i believe. same as the superlight in the referenced thread, except for the lugs. i can't decide which lugs are more sexy...the standard length, non-cutout chrome or the painted long-point cutouts.

i believe that superlight is still for sale, btw...

i'd wager the craftsmanship is quite similar, so why pay for the name? resale, i suppose. but i'm a penny pincher...
