Austin...
I might be visiting you. Who can I ride with?
I normally hate these threads. |

I'll ride with you. Do you need to borrow a bike? i don't have an extra FG, but I do have an extra beater road bike. What days will you be here? There are some cool rides on Monday and Thurs nights, and then there is the moonlight ride and critical mass that happen once a month. PM me.

cool, if you're here for multiple weeks then you will definitely have a chance to experience most cycling events the city has to offer. The good thing is that Austin doesn't ever get THAT cold. Coldest day we usually see is like 40, but averages are in the 50s, which is still cold enough to deter many cyclists in Texas haha

Dean, over at Twospoke.com is a fixed gear commuter. He should be able to hook you up with some rides/riders.

I sure wouldn't mind riding out to the Salt Lick again, although I gotta say my all time favorite ride in ATX was racing some pedicabber (on his road bike) from Spiderhouse to downtown. We were hauling ass down Guadalupe going faster than the timing of the streetlights, and of course he had brakes and I'm bombing down those hills skipping my ass off to scrub enough speed to not blast into traffic. That was a good time. Friendly people round them parts. It's like, you're there and you can't help but think it's a sweet city and everything, but everywhere you go there is someone/something to remind you that it's still TX.

Ya i live in Houston and a friend and I decided to ride down what we thought was nothing but a country rode on the outskirts but boy were we surprised. Every other car that passed us honked and one mirror even hit my shoulder.
PS i'm not in Houston currently at college, but i heard Houston elected an openly gay female for mayor o_O. Who knew the largest city in a conservative state. |
