First fixed gear bike recommendations
Hi, pretty soon I'll be heading to New York City and i want a fixed gear bike to get around on. I've worked in a bike shop so i know a little about repairing and assembling bikes (aside from straightening rims and bottom brackets). I was wondering what would be a good starter level bike for me, nothing too outlandish or expensive. Just a solid fixed gear bike that i wont have to spend a lot of money on different parts and would last me. Thanks

First and foremost: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...eed-Start-Here
Then read this: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...xed-Gear-Bikes I've never owned a mercier kilo tt, but its very popular in the fixed gear craze. It's not unique or pretty, but it'll last you. Now, if you would tell me your budget I would gladly recommend a bike. (Total willing to spend) |
I like the mercier. I'm probably willing to spend around 600 on a bike. Also I'm unfamiliar with sizing, I'm around 5'11 150 pounds.

If you are willing to spend the time, look for a used fixed gear on craigslist. They often have deals for $800+ fixies for 300-400.
I'm 5'10 140 lbs, I ride a 54 cm. Perfect size for me. You wanna size a bit smaller for fixies. I think 54-55 would be good for you, but ask a shop. |
yea, 54 or 55 would probablly be good. Also, check out IRO. Right at your price range and very nice bikes.
