Spoke Length Double Check

Formulas to open pro, 3 cross, I got 296mm does that work out to you guys?

Yo! 01-06-10 05:02 PM

What ERD did you use?

I used 605 when I built to WI hubs, and they were just poking through the tops of the nipples, AKA, just a bit long. Mavic advertises nipple seat diameter at 602, so they tell you to add 3mm for the ERD.

If I built them over again I'd build using an ERD of 603.

Okay so when you're using a spokcalc its (for 700c) 622- the diameter of your rim right?

Yo! 01-06-10 05:18 PM

Give me the formula hub specs (c-f, flange diameter) and let me see what I come up with.

TL179 01-06-10 05:53 PM

62 flange diameter 31.0 cf 120 old

TL179 01-06-10 06:53 PM

yeah using a 602 I got 290,

How many spokes are you using....?

TL179 01-07-10 08:26 PM

32, Thanks Tomo_ishi. I've been getting varied numbers. But thats the answer thats come up most. I might try and stretch it with 294 because I can get DT competitions in that size for a nice price

ichitz 01-08-10 09:18 AM

the cheapest I found so far is 88 cents for both spoke and nipple @ wheelbuilder.com
http://www.wheelbuilder.com/store/dt...ted-spoke.html

if u know any cheaper ones, plz share :)

Yo! 01-08-10 11:49 AM

Why use a spoke that's too long for the build to save a few extra dollars?

Buy your spokes at 292mm if you want to do it right. You'll run out of thread if the spokes are too long, and as I mentioned already, using an ERD of 605 will put that spoke right through the top of the nipple; 292mm is already on the longer side.
