Most of the time when I ride the fixie, I don't bring any tools with me cos if something happens, it's just as cool if not cooler to walk the fixie home.

Thats a lot of stuff. I usually carry a small 15mm wrench, a very very tiny multi-tool, patch kit, 1 tire lever, co2 and a tube. I used to carry more stuff but have gradually whiddled my repair kit down to the bare essentials.
Every mechanical problem I've ever had on the road was either fixable with what I had with me, or was completely unfixable regardless of what tools I was carrying.

I don't always carry all that stuff but I need to be pretty self sufficient because I just moved to a new city 500 miles from all my friends and family so if I break down there is no one I can call for a ride home. I don't really carry 3 steel tire lever (I usually carry one plastic one) and that lock was from when i lived in Knoxville, TN. I have a bigger/beefier chain that I carry now if I'll be locking up outside. The trixie tool, patch kit, and inflation thingie are always with me though.

That's the right idea, but don't use a cable lock unless you're tired of owning the bike.

tire lever(s)
tube
pump
wrench for whatever nuts you have
REAL lock :)

roadfix 01-13-10 01:54 PM

I always carry more flat related stuff on long distance rides, like on a double century. I carry a small chain breaker on long rides as well.

The cable was for locking up when I was getting lunch on Market Square in Knoxville, TN (pretty low bike theft area). All I needed was something to prevent a crime of opportunity ride-off theft.

I recently moved and I have a much beefier chain I use now. I'm afraid even that is not going to be enough to keep my bike safe on the streets of DC or B-more [high bike theft area] so I rarely leave my bike unattended if it's out of my sight.

I know the OP found what he was looking for, but I'm throwing my .02 in anyway. I carry, in my saddle bag, 2 CO2 cartridges and the inflator nozzle, the contents of a patch kit (without the bulky plastic box), three allen wrenches (one for my seat post collar, one for the cleats on my shoes, the other for everything else including my wheels) the little charger and a AA battery for charging my Blackburn Flea headlight, a knife, and finally (and very important) a few bucks. Never know when I'm going to bonk and need some emergency sustenance, and I don't always have a wallet with me. I used to have nutted axels, which required a 15 wrench, which required that I get more creative in finding ways to carry that, because I refused to pay more for a shorter wrench. Under my saddle I carry a spare tube. On me (in my bag or in a holster) I carry my u-lock. When I lock up I bring my allen wrenches with me. No sense in leaving the tools to steal my stuff, with the stuff. Just as bad as leaving the keys in the ignition.

erichsia 01-13-10 04:05 PM

mini-pump
patchkit
tire levers
multi-tool
spare tube
adjustable wrench

I won't recommend using that lock unless your bike is extremely ugly and cheap.....

But just for the fact of carrying it; why not? It'll look pretty sweet with a kryptonite lock next to it.....

Dude, the lock has been addressed. Read the post before saying something. "You're like a child who wanders into the middle of the movie and wants…"

Yes I know this is somewhat overkill but I had just gotten this bag and was seeing what all I could fit in it, this would be my "long ride" kit. Pretty impressed with the bag, "Topeak Aero Wedge Medium w/ Fixer", hopefully the clip doesn't break on me like they're supposedly prone to. If that happens on a ride I'll just hang it from my top tube with the velcro loop. Oh, my patch kit also contains a presta adapter in it, good to have in the extreme case of wanting to use a gas station pump.

What are those two butterfly looking screws for?

They attach the Trixie tool to the water bottle cage mount. I use them when I'm just out riding for fun but I don't leave the tool screwed to the bike if I have to lock it up outside.

What do you use that needs seven batteries?

well like I said, overkill. The headlight takes 3, the rear, 2. I like to leave my pbsf in constant-on mode sometimes which eats the juice. If I carried 3 I'd have spares to replace either front or rear goin dead, if I carried 5 it'd be enough to replace both. 7 is barely any heavier and happens to be all my spares so I just threw them in for that pic.

Gotcha. Didn't occur to me that the thing between the wrench and the batteries was another light o.O
