Long time lurker, never post... thought I'd share my newest bike. A Jamis Sonik, its for training this spring and summer. FSA carbon crank, FSA bars, SMP seat, look clipless and American Classic wheels. Bike is around 16 pounds. Very nice ride, stiffest bike in terms of side to side flex i have ever owned, the overall feel of the bike is not as harsh as you would expect, ride quality is quite good.

Welcome to BFSSFG. That is one sweet whip. You say it's for training, what are you training for? Do you race track? Road? Either way, welcome.

I do some pretty long rides on road, maybe 100 miles per week or more in the spring and summer into the late fall... right now i'm going crazy for not being able to ride as much. There are some century rides this summer I'm thinking of doing, the bike is for fun, and to get into shape and keep pushing me. Its a totally different experience to do 50 miles on a fixed gear then a road bike.

Roger that. How long have you been riding fixed? I love putting on miles. My goal this year is 10,000 fixed miles. I'm lucky, though, I can ride year-round pretty comfortably. I still haven't done a full century, all at once. I've had several 100+ mile days, here and there sort of things, but never just straight through. I can't get anyone I know to do it with me. I like going out to other towns for coffee and whatnot. Last year I rode from Albuquerque to Santa Fe for a cheeseburger a couple times. It's about 80 miles and crosses 2 mountain ranges and is absolutely beautiful.

Yes, and yes. I usually ride a 61 or larger but the bikes geo. gets all screwed up because my torso is not nearly as long as my legs. So lately I've been buying bikes that are a size to small so I don't have to run stems that are 50 or 60mm. The seat is also a little to high in the pic, i just had gotten everything built when i took the photo, its about 1 inch lower now. Even with the shorter top tube of the 58 vs 61 I still need a shorter stem then the "stock" 120mm Deda on the bike, need a 100mm from the measurement i did, thinking of going with a zipp stem, maybe some matching zipp bars too. Not sure on that yet. I'm going to wait to buy anything else for it until i have a chance to do a 20 or 30 mile ride.

a good fitter could help you with all that.

Really nice bike you got there.... I really love how jamis designed the seat tube to allocate the wheel when compared to bianchi's sloppy "patching" the seat tube method with the concept.... =P

BTW I just checked the site and they showed a Gloss Black / Pearl White color scheme of it; while the .pdf specs of the sonik only says the pearl white.... what's up with that?

The white is a 2009, the black is 2010. Jamis is clearing out the 09's right now, I got 20% of the retail price for going with the 09 vs 10, its the exact same bike fyi the only difference is color, and the AM classics are the newly styled ones that do imo look better.

Anyway I feel way bad for those conceptors with athena white; the patch job's sh*load of welds gets totally revealed by the inevitable road jizz; but luckily I have it in black lol :roflmao2:

Does the sonik also go frame only as I'm really digging the 2010 frame lol and I don't want to call/go to my closest jamis dealer that is filled with jackassery after it was sold to some new crappy management (Cyclepath in Hayward, CA).

Here is a picture from today after a ride and a bunch of adjustments, geo look alot better and ride is much better, i think i could still remove one or two stem spacers, for now I'm leaving it. The only other adjustment to make is a need a 100mm stem, the 120 is to long for me after ride for awhile.

bike from Jamis is $1700, frame only is $1000. To me the complete bike it a steal, the wheelset alone is $799! Something silly like 1400 grams for the wheels.

It's funny how Jamis names it's SS bikes in a soviet sort of way... and the sonik has "american" classic wheels.... :rolleyes: :innocent:
