Brake Gyro/Detangler on a fixed gear?

Hello, all

I was just interested to know if anyone had ever tried or is currently using a brake gyro/detangler, like some bmx bikes use, on their fixed gear. Some of the detangler systems are meant for hydraulic brakes as well.

Being able to do bar spins while running brakes... the BMX guys can do it... why can't we?

If you have a 1 inch threaded stem why not.

Scrodzilla 01-17-10 12:12 PM

It can be done threadless as well.

not required 01-17-10 12:50 PM

If your only going to run a front brake why not just fit a potts mod stem, the ones with the hole in the bolt, that is all the front brake uses with a gyro

Don't you need a straight fork (zero offset) to do this? Just asking, since I've never had a bike with bar spinz.

Or put a 650 wheel in a 700c fork.

Won't work with regular caliper, need discbrakes.

Huh? None of the gyro equipped bikes that I've worked on had disc brakes.

on a bmx, there will be enough clearance to use calipers & bar spin. but most fixed gears won't have that, unless it's a conversion with huge clearance.

I agree with erichsia even though I hate him. God damnit.

Nah...go back further and think ACS Rotor!

dbgray21 01-17-10 07:16 PM

its possible but it would be a total PITA to get to work properly. the only issues i really see are the lower tabs and if its a front brake the cable routing (where it goes from two cables back into one). that and you would need so many spacers...

My friend Tom is riding the Volume Thrasher and I think I remember him mentioning it has room for a front brake + bar spins.

As far as cable routing, this is what you want

you can make one out of an old woman's rear brake for like $2, just transfer the mechanicals to the longer front brake pivot bolt thingy.
