super short reach front caliper?

Hi-

I got an Alien frame (from the group buy here last year! very rad, many thanks!), and have been riding it brakeless for a while. I decided to fiddle around with it lately; I stepped up the gear ratio and then wanted a front brake. I remembered reading that the forks had very little clearance, so I went to the Alien website and got a brake there. I had my LBS drill the hole, but I went to pick it up and it turns out the caliper is still too big.

The brake pad makes only, say, 20% contact with the braking surface. Obviously this is a problem. Does anyone know of a super short reach caliper (the mechanic measured this one as 40mm, which I guess would make it the 39-49mm standard)? Or, alternately, of pads with an offset post (i.e., the post would*stick out below where the pad makes contact with the braking surface, so you could mount the brake pad at the top of the caliper and it would fully contact the braking surface)? I don't want to file the brake since it's aluminum and I'd need to file off a good 7 or 8 mm.

I can take pictures if necessary.

Thanks!

The Tektro R320 caliper claims to be 39-49 but will actually give you 35mm reach with the pads up as far as they go.

I just got one on eBay for 20 bucks shipped.

Hey, thanks everybody. I've been trying to tinker around and haven't come up with anything; I just ordered the Tektro brake and I'll post pictures if it works.
