I'm new, with questions

I've been reading on here for a while and just joined in anticipation of my first serious bicycle.

I am distraught.

I'm going to look at a complete used bike tomorrow, the parts are as following:
Mavic CXP30's with fix/fix Phil Wood hubs, Sugino 75 crankset with Sylvan pedals, unknown Cane creek headset, unnamed stem, handlebar, carbon fork, seatpost, saddle, tires, all on a Masi frame that's way too small, so I'll get rid of and replace it with something else.

It's looking like it will be 450 *****s for that.

Whaat do you think?

If the crankset and Phils are in good condition then yes, buy. A new 75 crankset with a zen ring runs about $350. Phils are at the cheapest like $200 or something. Everything else you could sell and make some good profit.

I always suspected that the top one was my daughter's husband. He's got this one:

She left him for some guy she met on Facebook.

Well, I'm glad someone sorted out grammar regulations.

The current owner said that they only had the bike for a few months and they're getting rid of it because it's too small. My concern is that it was just their beater that they treated poorly, and that will be too hard for me to discern whether any or all of the parts are worth reusing.

Is this silly?

I know that stuff like BB and axles and so on can be cleaned, etc., but what about the crank, the chain ring and cog's teeth and wheels' integrity? Is it worth it being worried about this or is it just automatically OK because the parts were great to begin with?

Yes. A Masi frame with all those goodies is a bargain at $450. Unless the frame is compromised, go buy it.

Since the frame is too small, you are basically going to end up with a few nice used parts that may be worth slightly more than what you paid, but probably not by much unless you get lucky on ebay. It seems you are still going to have to shop around for a frame that fits and then whose going to assemble it? That could cost $$. Plus you have to assess the state of wear of many of the parts and may need to replace those as well. If you are willing to go through all that trouble, then go ahead. But ask yourself if its really worth it just for a few bling components that you don't really need. For the same money that you are going to end up spending, you can easily buy a very nice new complete bike with name brand components (albiet without phil hubs or sugino cranks), that will still ride just as well or better and you'll go through less trouble and have a bike sooner.

I ended up buying it for $400, plus $20 so that we both felt totally content.

It looks like this.

I'm reading about the Scrambler V2 now, to see if that's a good match. If not, I'm going to garage sales and junkyards with a ruler.

Thanks for your guys' help deciding what to do about it.

HandsomeRyan,

Thanks for correcting my use of the word "your."

I might as well point out that you missed another error I made - it should have been, "No, you're not" rather than "No your not."

If you know when and where to place an apostrophe, you might as well be brought up to speed on where and when to use a comma.
