Cheap toe straps that don't snap??
 

I've gone through 3 straps this past year. Are there any durable ones less than $20? It always seems to snap when i'm going downhill :mad:

i had nylon straps, but their locking mechanism was way too weak. it gets all loose if I pull on it hard. I switched to microfiber ones per my lbs recommendation, but those all snapped

Make sure you know why some of us pay for them expensive Toshi or MKS NJS straps. We consider it worth awhile to have straps that don't snap / loosen and tolerate beatings. Also, if you keep snapping cheap straps, it might be economical to get the expensive stuff. After all, cheap straps ain't free either.

in terms of toe straps, durablity = quality. and if you want quality, you're gonna have to pay for it. people seem to like the Wabi/Exustar straps though.

Straps should be the best you can buy..your life depends on it don't cheap out..get better straps like toshi's,kashimax's ect

soma's,all city's and all the other crap leather straps suck...

You pay for quality as cheap and long lasting don't always go together

Like gum a "long lasting juicy fruit" 25cent stick will never beat out the 5gum flavors

The Wabi straps have gotten good reviews on this site. And they have nice bikes too.

buy cheap, buy twice (or in ur case 3 times)

Donno, I have cheap nylon straps that have lasted ten plus years. Usually toss them once the locking mechanism rusts to the point where I can no longer adjust them.

i've ridden a set of Zefal Mt Christophe nylon ("technopolymer") straps for years with only the slightest hint of fray... maybe i'm not as hard on straps as everyone else? but they haven't been mentioned in here yet.

oh, and they are usually found for like $10

really? I guess the only nylon pair I owned before sucked so bad so I didn't give nylon another chance. Then why is everyone else raving about toshis if nylon lasts 10 yrs?

I've also used double nylons on one bike, for the last 5 years. I do use a brake.

I don't install my nylons with the conventional method. I put straps through a different route that makes them not budge.

Ale leathers are quite nice. Although, I like my cheapo nylons too

I don't see how this is possible. Maybe just going clipless and dialing up the tension will be your best option.

Just to make sure... these straps are laced correctly and are not being pulled against a sharp piece of metal right?

The sharp piece would be the pedal.That's where i snapped a couple.Nylons seem to last but i can't stand the way they're twisting when clipping in.

Does clipping in mean putting your feet into the cages?

Maybe you just have bad finesse or awkward shoes.

Chucks and Vans are kinda grippy on the sides and tend to grab the strap,twisting it.With leather being stiffer it seems to be less of a issue.

i've been using the cheapo leather straps off bens cycle for months with no problems. i have them on two bikes. $4.99 a pair

"clipping in" mean putting your feet in the clips. why does everyone think cages means clips when clipless pedals are obviously lacking in clips for retention?

Get the Exustars from Wabi. They're not under $20, but they're much more affordable than Toshis/Kashimax/NJS, and they'll last.

I have nylon straps from the '80s. They still work, just look ugly

It means putting your feet into the toe clips and snugging down the straps.
