Need help identifying a frame

Hey, so i bought this frame from a friend, and he bought it from someone else. When he bought it, it was already sanded down. Now it is painted. Can you help me identify the frame? Thanks.

older japanese bike? the lugs on the head tube remind me of my fuji s-10-s, but your frame is missing a pump mount peg.

what is the rear drop spacing?

Maybe try the C&V forum?

Gonna be hard to identify that frame I imagine. FWWI, it doesn't seem particularly exceptional (e.g. the drops don't have a rd hanger, lugs pretty plain, etc).

Probably rides pretty nice, and that's what really counts.

Definitely NOT Fuji S10-S, wrong lugs, seat cluster detail etc. Probably 1970s because it is 120mm spacing and clearly made for 27" wheels, single headbadge hole may be clue to brand, look for serial number under BB but if you take it to C&V looking like that be prepared to get skewered.

A pump mount peg is a hook usually on the downtube to hold an oldfashioned tire pump. There are actually 2 of them to hold the pump at both ends.

I know...I've been overly snarky lately. Winter always gets to me a bit. I'm sorry.

:innocent:

It's a Univega. It says so right there on the down tube. It also looked much better before the horrible paint job.

Cynikal 02-05-10 05:26 PM

I'm fairly sure it say Univega on the downtube.

CUbuffsFTW 02-05-10 05:29 PM

1. thank you. i cannot read that haha. how would i go about finding out what model/year do you think??
2. it was not my paint job. i liked it better too... but whatever... fun bike

TejanoTrackie 02-05-10 05:33 PM

That is so sad. They took a pretty nice looking bike (except for the yellow chain), and totally ****ed it up. The original paint job wasn't bad at all, and my 7 yo grandaughter wouldn't screw up the paint that bad. Sorry OP, not bashing you, just pisses me off when I see this kind of abomination. OK, I'll go take my medication and not come back until I can be nice again.

No problem. It's not so much that I can actually read it, it's more that I happen to be familiar with what the Univega logo looks like, therefore making it easier to spot on the blurry photo.

Also, I believe it may be a Univega Sportour. Google it.

i wonder if there is a way to get a year. all i have is the serial number... L921056

wearyourtruth 02-05-10 06:10 PM

if it helps, if the rear spacing is REALLY 120 (and not just 120 because it's flexed flush with a 120 hub) then it most likely used a 5-speed hub originally.

So, it was originally probably 126mm, which is more like 1980s 6-speed hub spacing.

thanks for pointing me in the right direction

wearyourtruth 02-05-10 07:32 PM

yeah 126 is the standard for a lot of frames through the entire 80's and probably some of the 70's, definitely into the 90's.

wearyourtruth 02-05-10 08:07 PM

i also agree that looks just like a univega from the logo

1984 Univega. Supra Sport or Maxima Sport. are the most likely candidates.
