Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? How much do you get for blood?

MA3 and suzue basic dead.. relegated to single speed use on "spare" frame.

New, shiny, well at least on the way: Mavic open pro and surly 135mm hub, 32 spoke.. 14 gauge spokes.

Look from wife about spending "more money on the old bike and you don't have the new bike even here yet and you still have to buy parts for that one" could have.. well. Love her much, but won't be takin' her to the LBS anytime again real soon.

So, I'm thinking there's gotta be ways to make a little side cash.. sell blood..

Anyone have ideas?

Ebay? I'm sure you have something lying around worth something. I'm about to start sell old CD's (copy them first) and old bike parts that I will never use again. I share your pain with a wife who does not quite grasp the need for more and better parts. Unfortunately I have 2 expensive hobbies, computers and bikes, both of these keep me in the dog house often .

I made $40 a week all through college selling plasma. Not a bad gig if you don't mind going in for 90 min twice a week to read while reclining in a chair with a huge friggin' needle in your vein.

I gave plasma like 15 years ago for a short bit, the money just isnt worth it. The real answer is living within your means, so explain to the wife that she has to get a 2nd job to support your cycling habit or she needs to give up the expensive habit of driving a car. Actually, maybe saying things like that are why im single. LOL

Your lucky to be paid for donnating blood products, here in Australia blood donations are made volantry with tea and biscuts at the end. Every four weeks for whole blood donnations and plasma every two weeks are alloud. Also the redcross dont allow people to donnate if they have been to England in the last 12 months because of the risk of mad cow disease as this is not detectable in this time frame. In Australia our blood stocks are of good qualityhow about yours?

Ewww - I don't want to know that.

I say rent the wife out, and have her tested regularly. Unless you really want to sell her, in which case I might have a spare 5 bucks lying around somewheres. I'd need pics of the merchandise to be sure

Selling plasma never really worked for me. They took out the blood at too fast of a rate or something (I was at the bottom of the weight category) and I got pretty woozy. All I got out of my one and only visit was an 8"x4" bruise on my arm and $14. The biggest disappointment was that I was told there would be juice and cookies at the end. There was nothing of the sort.

I used to sell my plasma twice a week a long time ago. they used to play good movies-I allway's wanted to take a date-get poked in opposite side arm's hold each other's hands, watch a movie, spend the loot on drink's or dinner after-classic cheap date.

Interstate Blood Bank off W. Lawrence. $20 for your first visit. $30 for your second. Last stop off the brown line and just across the street. Over 150 lbs, you have to donate 800 mL of plasma. Between 110 and 150, 600 mL. Under 110, no go.

It is actually really hard to do this (officially that is). Sperm banks only take really qualified donors and it may take a year to get approved. And if you were approved you couldn't, you know, "practice" in your off-time.

Believe me, I looked into it--I couldn't think of a better way to work for fun and profit

As for blood, I only gave it once, as a donation, and it was really weird for about 6 hours afterwards. Somebody would say something and it would take about 10 seconds for me to process it before I could respond, and then another 10 seconds to realize that I was talking, just in time to lose my train of thought.

The upside was that they did have juice and cookies galore, and it was mandatory to sit and eat them
