Ha! I've had mine for a little while now - it went on a VO Polyvalent with IGH as well! I don't have enough experience to really say "this is a good crank" or "this is a bad crank", but all the fellows at the bike shop seemed to be suitably positive about it.

To bring up an old thread from last year. It appears that the IRD Defiant cranks now come in a 130bcd road double and a 110 bcd compact double & triple.

Arm lengths are 170, 172.5, and 175. I wish they would offer them in 165mm. Not sure I like the looks of the compact, but the 130's don't look so bad.

130bcd Price $190

110bcd $190 double $205 triple

I never really understood the obsession with old stuff folks on this scene (and ultimately the manufacturers) have. But, there are a lot of things that I don't understand. To each his own.

They appear to be a really nice replica.

That's the beauty of it, not everybody has to like the same things to appreciate them. I, for one, love classic stuff. I'm a throwback I guess and love the simple elegance of some of the old Campy and Stronglight cranks. They just look "right". I appreciate modern crank styles too. But given the choice, for me it is the vintage look.

IRD is the US brand name for tange seiki dude they have been making components for decades these are not knockoffs but more than likely a reissue of an older crank they used to make I actually own a set of tange seiki fluted road cranks very similar to these

Please try to do some research before you make claims of something being a knockoff when it is simply another reissue of an original product

Hi There,
I'm a long-time lurker. I haven't really had a need to ask questions all these months because almost I've found the answers to almost all of my questions online or at my LBS; that's until now. I'm digging up this old post because it seems to be the proper place for my question.
I'm looking at picking up the IRD Defiant crankset. Has anyone had issues with swapping chainrings? Any modifications required on either the spider or the new/third-party chainring to make them fit properly?
Thanks.

Well, honestly to me, a lot of components tend to look like knock offs. Almost all the Japanese stuff looks like it was heavily informed by classic Italian components. Not that some of it's not "as good" as the things that influenced it (or maybe in some cases tweaked to be better), but it seems like it's time that gives it a cache amongst us bike dorks. I mean, it's not rocket science, right? I'd guess in the 80's/90's, Sugino Mightys, Suntour, etc were looked down on as knock offs as well. And I bet in 10 years, after they've been discontinued, these cranks will be selling for bank on Ebay.
