frame with threaded fork, Soma Rush, Kazane or ?
 

Hey everyone, I know you get these threads a lot but I just wanted some opinions...

I noticed I had a bunch of parts lying around and I have the urge to build up a new everyday/commuter bike. (I live in NYC) the two necessities are it needs to have a 68mm BB and a threaded fork (I have lots of quills and a nice headset on hand so don't talk me out of it)

I've been looking at the soma rush (you can order threaded forks instead of the threadless)
and the kazane

They are both similarly priced with the soma having nicer tange prestige. The kazane looks nice and seems to have nice geometry but you're really paying for the lugs and paintjob, not the steel.

what do you guys think? any other frames in this price range that come to mind? (don't mention an iro angus I used to have one and didn't bond with it)

I really like my Rush--- the only issue is that if you want threaded, you might want more of a classic lugged look. There are a few options of the alien variety, as mentioned. I think a quill would look odd on a Rush.

does anyone know if BD decided to go threaded with the up and coming chrome and lugged kilo? That's about the only thing I can think off the top of my head now. The downside is that it's not available until June or something.

Yeah alien/kazane I hear are pretty much the same, anyone ever ride one of them?

affinity has a new frame called the metropolitan that takes 1" threaded, but its also made of 4130

...I'm leaning towards the rush mostly for the tange prestige and the sizing but any info on the others would be helpful

I really like the Kilo with a threaded fork and quill stem. I think Bikeisland states the frames come with a threaded fork, you just need to finish threading it (more asking around would help)

I really don't think that the Alien and Kazane frames are the same. I've not ridden the Kazane, but I see quite a few of them at the races in Richmond. It seems to me that they are not conceived for the same thing. I would not let the "nicer steel" thing bother me that much. There are plenty of nice steels available without a badge on them (although I do like to have the badge myself - all is well with the world when your bike has a Reynold sticker on the seat tube).

I thought about the kilo, It seems pretty decent. One of my friends has one and swears by it but I see 300 of them everyday and want something different.
so it's really between the rush and kazane again,
what do you guys think? which would you buy

I believe the Rush has better tubing.

I'm pretty happy with my Alien as far as quality/geo goes.

Also look into Viking and the Specialized Langster Steel

interesting, I never saw viking cycles before. They use the same exact geometry table as alien but have different dropouts and the frame weighs a touch less
is this affiliated with alien bikes? they are the same but he claims "These frames are made to my design and spec and are not available anywhere else"

same owner. Same geometry i believe. Just different tubing

they definitely look nice but I have a feeling they care more about the look then how they ride. they all have a 28 rake? that seems like an aesthetic choice to have the tire up on the downtube rather then a match to the geometry.

but that is just my impression, could some owners chime in? daft crunk what do you like least about the frame?

alien frames are very similar to Kazane's but not the same. the fork ends are a bit different and so are the forks themselves. not enough to make a difference though. i have an alien and love it. much higher quality and class than a Kilo.

well kazane and alien are sold out, I guess I'm going to preorder a viking

unless you just REALLY want a paint matched fork... get whatever frame you want, then a chrome threaded fork. frames are not threaded or threadless.

true, but many frames include the fork in the price, and it's hard to find threaded "track" forks in any rake less then 38mm that are cheap

but yeah, I'll definitely post a pic when I get it built up, Joseph said they were still being built but should be shipping out in may

Can I throw in an oddball suggestion? There are a bunch of British frame builders who build you a frame to your specs for about that, especially now the pound is dropping against the $. Steve Goff, Bob Jackson and Woodrup are at the value end. If you wanted to spend a bit more, you could try Mercian, Rotrax or JF Wilson.
