Bern Helmet Sizing

I apologize in advance for contributing to thread pollution but I did a search and this particular topic seems to not have come up previously....

Does anyone own a Bern helmet? If so, what's your baseball cap size and what size Bern do you wear? I measured my head and I'm right on the cusp between the medium and large sizes.

Depends on your hair; if your hair is more grown out then usual get the smaller size; if it's shorter than usual get the bigger size as you'll be able to accommodate more hair. Afros are exempt.

I don't know what my Baseball Cap size is, but I have a Brentwood XL.

My Circumference is about 24", and I have no hair, and it fits fine.

There is a mechanism inside the helmet on the backside that allows you to tighten or loosen to improve fit.

Something to consider though is if you will ever want to wear a hat. I couldn't wear a typical knit beanie with mine as it wouldn't fit, so I had to buy what is essentially a swimmer's cap to keep my dome warm during the winter.

Overall it is a great helmet. Surprisingly well vented and stays cool even during the summer in Atlanta (perhaps due to the baldness). But it is quite comfortable and I wear it daily.

Hope that helps

Their helmets runs small.
I have a Brentwood, and I had to get a large, although I'd say my head is pretty normal-sized.
If you're between a medium and large, I'd say get the large, because you can tighten the strap and lower the circumference on the bigger one, but you can't really extend it if the medium is too small.

Thanks all for the thoughtful responses! I suppose I should go for the large seeing as I do have a bit of hair and I'm a 23" circumference.

their helmet does run small. I have a bern watts that I use in the winter coz u can put the ear warmer on and with some neck scarf, i don't have to deal with a balaclava. With the ear warmer, fits me perfect. Without it, it's too big. So on a spring day like today i just took out the ear warmer and wear a cap underneath so it fits well. So yea, get the larger one

ditto on this. i have the watts as well but in a xxl. they run very small. i have a big head but christ i didn't think it was that big. with the ear warmer in it fits great but without its a l;ittle too bulky on the sides. i was really expecting to have it fit snug on all sides but not the case. great helmet all around though.

skiuniverse usually has great prices. they have an ebay store and an online store.

i will also say i think the watts runs a tiny smaller than the brentwood.
i got a XL watts, and it didn't fit, too small. then decided i liked the looks and ventilation of the brentwood better, so thought i would get an XXL brentwood. Went to REI and tried some on, and while the XL watts was too small, the XL brentwood fit just fine. in fact the XXL brentwood fit me too, that is if i tightened up the straps.

better to get a bit too big than small....you can always sinch up the straps, and there is a zip-fit (or whatever its called) sinch in the back of the helmet to shrink the circumference.

It all depends on the shape of your head. I have a Brentwood XL that is really tight, but a Watts L fits me OK. I would suggest trying it on before you buy it.

No offense mate, but if that were an option I'd have done just that instead of posting a query on the interweb. Unfortunately my only options are ordering on-line, so I'm trying to narrow down the chances of having to return an item due to incorrect sizing. Thanks for the response though.

I have the Watts and it's uncomfortable. My head shape is long oval...I think Bern uses a a rounder shape.

That's what I would do. REI has a ton of them.
