Bottom Bracket Tool ?
 

I'm doing a singlespeed conversion to my old Centurion 10 speed bike. I was able to get the left side of the bottom bracket off but the right side is proving to be quite difficult.

I tried an 18" pipe wrench to no avail. The right one has two flats on the outer rim and that's it. I was looking at a spanner wrench but I'm concerned that it won 't work since this bugger is really on there.

Are the spanner wrenches hardened steel?
What are those old cups made of? I tried to drill a couple of holes in it but couldn't touch it.

I hate to spend 15 bucks on a tool and not have it work.

Crescent (Adjustable) wrench.

For the record, you ARE turning it the right way, right?

drive side cup is reverse threaded....you loosen it by turning it clockwise.

most likely you'll need a 36mm box end wrench. you can get a park tool HCW-4. it has a 36mm box end along with a pin spanner that will fit most adjustable/non driveside cups.

Thanks, I did look at the box end wrench. Since I'm taking this out and won't be using it again I was trying to avoid having to spend the money on a tool to use it once. I'll try some other tools tomorrow.

Just a quick follow-up. I used a 24" crescent wrench and it came off with ease.
