My first fixie
I'm a happy camper.

wth is with that rear brake?
|
Yeah, why no front brake?
|
I dunno. The bike came with a rear brake. Should I go buy a front brake?
|
most stopping power will come from a front brake... it'll still slow you down, just not as efficiently...

Hmm. Interesting. I will look into a front brake then. Any suggestions?
|
bikeisland.com tektro front brake set is like $30. black or silver.
|
I tried to find that "My First Fixie" graphic that Blickblocks made a while back, but I failed. Anyway, think of that and you'll get the idea.
|
it would also appear that youre running it single speed? unless my eyes deceive me, i'm pretty sure that's a freewheel... if thats the case then you still need a front brake...

Just cut the cable ties; reinstall the brake you already have at the front of the bike; just shorten the brake cable and housing or alternatively if you're not handy with bikes just have a LBS do it for you; it should take them less then 15 minutes and less then $10. |
you might be able to get the rear brake to fit the front with a little modification. i was too lazy/cheap to buy a front brake, so that's what i did.
|
but like the other guy pointed out if he's running freewheel he needs 2 brakes anyway.
rear brake only on a freewheel in the rain is borderline dangerous |
This brake doesn't fit on the front of my bike. I already tried it, but the bolt is too short.
I'm riding the bike mainly fixed, and only riding it free when I go on longer rides. This picture was taken after I tested out my freewheel for the first time so I could check how the ratio felt. Anyways, thanks for the crash course in brake safety. |

Here's my moto track
http://i39.tinypic.com/wjz2g.jpg I actually really like that blue color. As for your brakes, i would suggest getting a new set from bikeisland or some other place because the one it came with really blows. You might also want to consider clips that attach to your top tube for the cable housing. |
You should consider flipping your riser, It looks ugly pointing upwards

if it's comfortable, it's good.
he was talking about the stem... I hope, although maybe he was talking about the bull horns... sad. |

Stem rise or drop is a function of bike fitting, not style. Proper Bike Fit trumps style every time. |
I think driving with your seat reclined all the way back is a requirement to graduate D-oucheBag Academy.

Your LBS can easily help you with that; a new longer brake mount bolt is dirt cheap as opposed to buying a entire new brake. Trust me you can buy brake mounting accessories; some brakesets don't even come with them new.
|
dear god make that ugly thing go away
|
Wow. Just…wow.
