I saw one at Performance, and it looked really nice. It was so light that I could lift it from the top rack with one arm (I'm short and weak.....). The handlebar + stem and the saddle really stand out as nice components. I'd really like to test ride it at some point.

The one thing I don't like about Schwinn is that its sizes are huge. The X-Small seems like it should be a Small.

I think that these look great. I shopped it against the Moto Team Track, but went with it because of the Dura Ace

ill definitely pay 100 more for 853 versus double butted cromo... plus some much nicer components.

Plus it has a track geometry, not a street geometry.

Honestly, it's not bad at all. Actually, it's pretty nice. I'd compare it to entry level track racing bikes. I'd replace things with higher-end components only when they broke.

I'll definitely add this bike to the list of entry level bikes for those who want to race at the track.

i don't really see what makes those special. if you're looking for a commuter bike then maybe, but all of these bikes are tigged in some taiwainese shop. If you're buying them on the pretense of being european, don't

that said, does the sprint really have track geo? someone at schwinn said it was the same geo as the madison's, which i thought was kinda crit-like street geo. I haven't really looked at it though.

I recently saw a Sprint at a local Schwinn dealer. It's a pretty awesome bike.

As a sidenote, I wish I could find either a white '07 or a blue '08 Madison.

Yes.

Here are the angles:

Schwinn Madison:
Seat Tube 72.5
Head Tube 73.5

Schwinn Sprint:
Seat Tube 74
Head Tube 75

Basically, the Sprint sits more upright and will have a more nimble behavior. It will behave really nicely at higher speeds on the banks of a velodrome.

To put this in perspective, here are some mid to super high end track bikes (all are size "large" 56-58cm for similar comparison):

Planet X Stealth Pro Carbon Track (approx $1,000 or less):
Seat Tube 74
Head Tube 75

Felt TK1 (approx $6,000):
Seat Tube 74
Head Tube 74

Dolan DF3 (approx $3,000):
Seat Tube 74.5
Head Tube 74

Tiemeyer (stock, $1,335):
Seat Tube 74.5
Head Tube 74

LOOK 496 ($10K):
Seat Tube 74
Head Tube 74.5

LOOK 596 ($10K+):
Seat Tube 75
Head Tube 73

As Carleton says, the Sprint has modern track geometry with steep HTA and STA, short chainstays and wheelbase, high BB, 35mm fork offset (L and XL), which with the 74.5° HTA (L size) and 700 x 25c tires renders a trail of 58mm. I have long legs and a short torso, so the 56cm top tube on the large size (60.5cm c-t seat tube) would be a good fit for me.

Yes, it's built in Asia and TIG'd, but it's an 853 frame with decent components for less than $1K.

I'm tempted, but was looking for feedback from someone who has one.

Performance had a US Only version without brakes for only $800. Online is sold out, though. But, maybe there are some still in stores.

Well, I ordered a Sprint at the local Performance store today. They said it would be here in a week and a half.

I sounds awesome, but I really dont like the paint job/color combo schwinn has been sporting on this thing and the madison, it think it just looks cheesy. Otherwise I would be tempted as well.

I agree with scrod, the 07 madison looked good. It had a sweet old school paintjob.

Whoomp...there it is! As much as I do like the blue '08s, there's something about the white '07 that just slays me. If I ever find one for sale, I'll be pretty stoked.

IMO, the new ones don't even come close.

Yea that paintjob looks so retro and awesome, and the components arent obsessively color matched, something the new ones really lack. Some kid around campus rides one, its tarcked out as hell but still looks classically hip for a new bike.

The 2007 Madison had the same paint scheme as the mid-eighties lugged Madison with double-butted Columbus tubing. They were sweet.

I knew that, but the odds of ever finding one of those is extremely slim so I usually force my myself to forget it exists.

i agree! personally I don't like the modern ones, the straight fork seems so fat, makes the whole bike look clumsy

Oh man...why? I've seen your bike on Velospace. If it's 55ish and you want to sell it, please PM me!

Scooper - apologies for slightly derailing your thread. It wasn't intended.
