Quick sag messenger bag question: water proof technically?
My friend just got back from japan and brought back a sag messenger bag for me; which happens to be my first sag bag. The material on the outside feels like suede but I'm pretty sure it isn't from searching around google; I never seen this material for a messenger bag before.
What has me confused is the clothing like care tag inside that reads be careful of water.... so I'm asking you guys if this bag is capable of being taken out in the rain for a ride without any repercussions. (I don't want to F up this nice bag that was gifted to me so fast); Am I correct to assume yes; as the fabric outside feels waxy? |
I have a sag bad and it was that suede material. I have ridden with it in the rain and still feels the same and looks the same. But it hasn't seen too many rainy days. I prefer my chrome for that.

You can get some waterproofer for shoes that will help it keep it's properties.

I have a sag. It's pouring rain in nyc right now. I tend not to bike in from brooklyn in this weather. But I've taken the sag bag on other mildy rainy days to get cat food/litter. I don't think I've seen the inside of the bag wet at all. It feels pretty waterproof to me. At the same time tho, the messenger bag doesn't have a completely close opening (as compared to a roll top) so I'm guessing given enough rain/wind water will somehow find it's way in.
In conclusion. I have no definite answer. You should be our test subject and come back with full review :innocent: |
What about the liner? What is it made out of?

ok this is what i have. I don't know if it's the same as yours (happypills) but since u said it feels like suede i'm guessing we have similar one? From SAG's website. The material is fake suede.
http://www.chariandconyc.com/images/...DSC_0555.9.jpg As you can see, it's some fabric that 'feels' like suede, gives a matte black look. It also clings on to dust really well. If my cat steps on my bag after it uses the litter box, it takes a long time for me to clean this bag. :notamused: http://www.chariandconyc.com/images/...DSC_0558.9.jpg The inner material is Nylon Twill (PVC), again according to SAG's own website, which should be pretty water resistant if not water proof. Maybe i should go home and dump mine in the shower. |
OMG lol you have the same exact bag as me!

And those prices @ chari for sag bags are pretty exorbitant in price... my friend only paid around about $90US, when converted from Yen, for mine in Japan.... but exportation fee? Thank god for fake suede! As I'm pretty sure all you guys know what happens to real suede in the rain  |
What's wrong with good ol' cordura + truck tarp?
