how does this work?

So I just saw this bike:

Two questions:

1. How does this guy adjust his chain? No horizontal or track dropouts...?

2. Anyone seen this kind of lock before? Is it any good?

Tx :D

Rad. Looks like it would flop around if someone were trying to break it.

Magic gear ratio.

That bike's what you'd call a "magic gear" (edit: ianjk beat me to it). See here:

Also, here's a link to a site that has some reviews of the Specialized Wedlock:

For what it's worth, a girl I know has one and hates it.

Abus makes a lock like that. I've heard good things, but never actually used one.

I use the ABUS padlock that comes with the quad chain from bikeregistry.com

Very solid stuff.

Ah, I see:

math+trial & error + lotsa changing/adding/removing links and "mutant-half-links" when it gets loose?

Sounds like a pain... or maybe a labor of love :) The math and trial and error I figured, but I've seen this before and never got what was done about stretching the chain. Now I know! Thanks guys...
