What do you all think 2003 Fuji Track Bike

What do you think? Should I pick up a single speed set up? I think that it is going to be $500 in the end for this setup:

Harris Cyclery Fixed/Free Edition $749.95

The exclusive Harris Cyclery Road Edition features two Shimano Dual-Pivot front brakes, upgraded with Kool Stop salmon brake shoes, and a singlespeed freewheel in addition to the fixed rear sprocket, using the flip-flop hub.

Custom gearing of your choice included in this version.

Let me know, my Nishiki SS has kicked the bucket and I need a new ride.

why don't you just get the rack version of the same bike (i got mine --a 2004? --for $500) and slap on your brakes from the nishiki. the frame and forks are pre-drilled, though you'll have to guide the cable to the rear brake.

the fuji is a great bike, btw. i use my fuji more than any other bike. real smooth ride. my only complaint is that the paint chips easily. i don't know why that is.

i ride on 48-15. a little heavy, but i'm trying to beef up.

I have thought about doing just that, but am going to fix up the Nishiki and sell it to someone who will enjoy it for many more miles.

I might just try that 48-15, but then again I do have a series of hills on the way home to climb.

Fuji Track Bike 2003

Wow, I have that very bike. And I have to say, I love it. The only issue I have with this purchase is that the price seems a little high? Maybe its just me, I bought my Fuji track bike this past winter, with a flip flop set up on it, Profile Bullhorns, brakes, and everything for $495... and that was this past winter? I would think that as that frame gets older (since the 04's have been out for a while; I like the red color) i just thought they would be trying to get rid of the old stock... I would just get the bike as fixed... dont bother with the freewheel, ... I have never used mine. As far as the brake, just get a used front BMX brake and slap it on. As soon as I got my bike home I stripped off the rear brake, fliped the wheel to Fixed, taped up the bars, tightened all the bolts and headed out. Never flipped it back to the freewheel. but like I said, I love riding it, its a nice bike, light and solid... ran into someone in the city riding the same bike and he complained about most of his components failing, but it sounds like that was a fluke. anyway, enjoy!

by the way, have you tested the Bianchi Pistas.... aside from the chrome finish, they are pretty nice as well.... sorry 04 pista people, I just dont like the flashy chrome.... at least not in Center City Philadelphia.

Fuji Track Bike 2003

I checked out harris cyclery when I was looking for a cheap frame. fuji frame they have is one of the cheapeset out there. It was made in china and not in taiwan, and you could see the difference. the frame looked like that from a walmart bike. they stamped the serial number underneath the BB shell after painting. They paint was chipped and there was already rust. But the good news is 2004 fuji frames are much better (made in taiwan). I say, avoid 2003 (silver/blue) ones.

Wow, that is really cool.
looks every bit as good as the Country Bob.
Only a couple hundred or slightly less than a Langster, and bought from Sheldon Brown himself. I bookmarked it, thanks.
Er, that's the complete bike right?

I had a 2003 Fuji, got it from Harris in fact, and that was the bike that got me into riding fixed. I liked it and had no issues other than I could never get the chainring absolutely centered. I thought I might have probs with the wheels given the unknown nature of the hubs, but no worries there either. I do have one recommendation, though - just put on a front brake and use a cyclocross lever as it works great and looks better/less obtrusive....geez, put on those brake hoods like Harris will do, even dummy ones, and you might as well have gears.

about the windsor hour:
a) don't believe the hype about merckx riding a windsor when he broke the hour. he rode a colnago with windsor stickers on it.

b) i've heard that's the same frame as the fuji track bike

c) those windsor hour bikes go for new (i think it's from the same company) for less on ebay, with warranty, such as here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

Last time I checked, windsor is SAME bike as fuji 2004 track. Just different badge. I saw the fuji 2004 in person and it looked awesome in red. I say, go for it.
