Does anyone make a lightweight messenger style bag in something like ripstop nylon or that cotton/canvas cloth they make the little handle bags that people use instead of paper or plastic?

Looking for something for shopping and carrying light stuff and don't want or need a bulletproof heavyweight bag. Something with less structure that could even fold up pretty small but carries across the chest like a messenger bag for riding.

It doesn't go across the chest, but I use this bag everyday on the bike and around town. It is quality and affordable.

edit: Strap over the shoulder on the same side you're carrying the bag = purse
Strap over the head on opposite shoulder = cool

Check out Seagull Bags. I know they make a smaller bag, but I don't really remember off the top of my head.

I have their medium sized bag and love it.

Not so much looking for small but lightweight. Actually I think Patagonia makes just about what I'm looking for although a bit too expensive (what a surprise) and geared more toward the ladies looking at the colors:

I've ridden with the various Chrome bags and day packs, but I prefer the Newspaper Boy bag at the following site:

I bought a large grommet set from a fabric store and a short bungee cord (18") as a chest stability strap.

I put three grommets in the bag for attaching the bungee cord at strategic points that I can explain if anyone has an interest.

I get many favorable comments about this bag from other riders.

Big, cheap, comfortable.

Yeah, some girls in my classes have this bag. Though I must admit, it doesn't appear to be so light. Perhaps that is because they are packed to the brim with books and such.

It seems well made though.
