Luongo?

So I have a chance to get this guy for, well, a good price for the frame and some extras. I Haven't been able to find any info on Luongo's bikes other than what the seller told me on the phone.

Apparently he only built high end stuff and this one was built for a euro team and didn't end up getting used? The frame was built in Switzerland and it seems Mr Luongo was/is a master framebuilder.

*Disclosure* this isn't going to be raced on the track, but its not going on velospace either. This is going to be my 9-5 work bike (unless its pouring)

Any thoughts or experiences with Luongo?

I initially thought you were buying a bike from Roberto Luongo which would have been cool. I've never heard of this Luongo though.

I ride a steel mid-90s Luongo and it's a great rider. Lightweight, good climber, stable descender, handles very well. Antonio Luongo knows how to design and build bikes judging from mine. Here's my bike and information I've gathered on him, various bikes, teams supported, etc. http://www.peterbrueggeman.com/cr/luongo.htm

thanks for the responses guys.

I originally had this thread double posted in CV and Track but Unterhausen moved it here. Considering that Luongo hasn't built since the 90's and he made mostly high end custom racing frames I figured that the street fixed forum wasn't the best place (it isn't). But because I insinuated I'm a messenger he got all whatever and put it in SS/Fixed.

Anyway, I bought the bike, it rides great, easily the best steel frame, road or track I've ever owned. Italian bb was a bit of a pain, and there's a ton of toe overlap. Once I get a minute I'll post some pics.

Right now I'm trying to figure out what kind of columbus tubing it was built from.

I would like to see what Tuuka and the Bruins can do to Luongo. Oh sorry wrong Luongo.

I found your posting because I looked up Luongo on bikeforums.net out of curiosity. I watch C&V only so my timing was impeccable. Antonio Luongo built with Columbus tubing according to the Italian account rep with whom I spoke recently at the San Diego Custom Bicycle Show. You probably know but if you are unaware of some cues to Columbus tubing: check for a helical rib on the inside of the bottom of the downtube and seat tube and also on the inside bottom of the fork steerer tube. Then refer to this chart: http://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/columbus/columbuschart.htm

Thanks guys, I'll post some pics soon. Please excuse the street setup, and the anodized hubs

what year was it built? what size seatpost does it take? from the photos, it would appear to be TIG welded, except at the BB? are the main tubes shaped (ie: not round in cross section)? they definitely look oversized, but it's hard to tell if they are ovalized. sure it's columbus?

here's my guess...29.4 post + TIG + those beefy chainstays = EL-OS.
