Cheap track dropdowns? 26?

Any one know any cheap track dropdowns? like soma 456, Im probally going to get those. or some even cheaper ones at the LBS i think they are orgin 8, Cept i dont think they are that nice.

cc700 04-12-10 05:33 PM

origin 8 are nicer than the 456. i hated my 456, they're so heavy and not that stiff.

evilcryalotmore 04-12-10 05:37 PM

O really? I held a soma trackodrama or something, They where really heavy. I just want that nice track look. i'll go over to the LBS to check out the origin 8's. Idk if they are too wide or not though so yea.

I have the 456 and I dig it. haven't found anything on it to complain about.

The Origin8 looks nice as well. Kind of reminds me of a cheaper version of the Deda Pistas. Anyways most handlebars, including track drops, come in a variety of widths. Be sure to ask your LBS what widths they carry.

cc700 04-12-10 05:50 PM

yeah the velodrama are a deda pista shape made from steel. basically an OS clamp 456 with stupid colors... and it wasn't so much the look of the 456 i hated it was how flexy they were. i'm a lightweight and it felt like my bike lost 30psi in the front tire when i was in the drops.

aluminum makes a ton more sense for handlebars. too much weight in the steering makes for a predictable but sluggish cockpit. plus there's a lot to be said about too much of a drop.

evilcryalotmore 04-12-10 05:58 PM

Huh, You recomend any track style drops? something around $50. Cause i have some aluminum anatomical bend bars. And they are ugly as heck... so i want that nice fluid bend.. i know how it feels with a heavy bar. They do feel like C*** so yea.. Reconmendations?!

Aren't the 456s only available with a 25.4 clamp diameter?

I had a pair and didn't like them...they are indeed very heavy, and the drop is useless for street riding.

cc700 04-12-10 06:44 PM

i dunno if you can still get them, but dimension had some track bars that were coming out back a year ago or something... they are the same bars that came on the raleigh rush hour the past two years. they're pretty awesome, cheap, and light. otherwise, i'd just save up for some nitto 123aa's. prettiest bars ever.

Deda made cromoly trackdrops specifically for Bianchi.
Their about $60 here: http://www.bikyle.com/TrackParts.asp
Scroll down about 2/3rds of the page. I havent used them before but they seem nice and relatively cheap. Its made by Deda, how bad can it be?

ssindosk8rss 04-13-10 01:21 AM

Some 456's look nicer, or I mean sleeker than the Origin 8's. Are they really that bad? The Deda's are really nice but they're pretty expensive compared to the 456's and Origin 8's.

Is the consensus that Origin 8's are better?

cc700 04-13-10 01:41 AM

i haven't ridden the origin 8's but i have ridden the dimension and from what i can tell, they're made by the same people.

handlebars, to me, are the one part to not cheap out on unless you are spending less than ten bucks on them. otherwise, it's just too important of a fit and comfort and performance component to cheap out on.

I have the 456 and it is heavy and flexy. It looks really good and I like the feel when I get in the drops, but when I really put some in some power there is very noticeable flex. I have some Origin 8 road drops now and they're pretty light and stiff, but not very pretty.

NateRod 04-13-10 07:56 AM

The 456 felt good, even on the drops on the older bike because that frame was a tighter fit. Feels a bit weird on the new frame, which is larger. Kind of a PITA to get down in the drops, from these first few rides I've had with it.

I might be looking to get a bar with a shallower drop now.

Hmmmm. these look kind of nice. Need to check if they have a shallower drop than the 456

EDIT: NM. 173 mm... slightly deeper than the 456 even.

Anyone tried the Soma Major Taylor bar?
