Pizza Racks
Another silly question, because why the hell not?
Has anyone picked up a pizza from a local shop and attempted to bring it home on their fixed gear? I just held the box horizontal and rode home with no handlebars. But, there has to be a better way. Any recommendations for a rack that can accommodate a horizontal large pizza box? |
I know i've seen pictures of all kinds of people's bikes with custom built pizza and beer racks. I don't know if any are commercially available or people just have friends with welders. I like the idea though, and have been thinking about something similar for my ride, so I'd be curious to know how these various racks came about.

Google CETMA racks or search Velo-orange's site.

Wow, CETMA Racks is now CETMA Cargo, but their 5-rail rack can definitely hold a pizza box. Make that 16:

I'm sure DIY is easy if you have access to a TIG welder.
My roommate own every welder under the sun, yesssssss. Looks like I may have found my next project for the 26" single speed. |

Digging around for pizza rack ideas and came across someone using a Shimano shoe heat moulder being used as a pizza oven... -_-

Especially if they're all supremes! OHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I just put the box on my bullhorns and rest my hand on top so it does not slide off.
Sometimes I hook a thumb over the side of the horn where there is a gap between the bars and the box. I thought that was what bullhorns were for...now I am wondering if I missed something...... Enjoy |
Hah, yeah, Bullhorns are totally the vertical brake cables of our day.
There's an old joke that the French used drop bar brakes with the brake cable extending out vertically much longer than the rest of the bike industry, which moved to having the brake cables extend out horizontal towards the center. This is said to be the case because the French would prop their daily baguette on the brake cables and ride home that way. |

but when you consider the fact that most shops charge about $2 just for delivery, it'll pay for itself over the next 60 pizzas...
You have a point... although I never have them deliver as I prefer to bike over, and if I can find a fun DIY project, than all the better. Still, the CETMA Cargo 5-Rail is totally awesome. As it's just a pizza, it would be nice to set up a clip-on system, though. This way I can put it on and take it off just for those late night pizza runs. |

My Wald 157 carries pizza nicely. It's the exact same size at the bottom as my favorite pizza joint's size large box.
Cheap, too. |

Right there at the bottom! I've strapped things to the top o fit as well though, that could work for really big pizzas or when you need to get beer at the same time:

Why not just use a normal rack? If I can strap a meter-long archery case to mine, than you can bungee a pizza to one without much ingenuity.

I'm currently in the process of building my own outdoor wood-fired brick pizza oven so I don't have to use a special rack.

[QUOTE=antiaverage;10698788]Plus tip... so even less pizzas ;)QUOTE]
"even fewer pizzas", or "even less pizza"... not "even less pizzas"... Pluralization. |
They make a luggage rack for vespas that you could probably also find a way to rig up for this.
