My two-day old Steamroller was just stolen in St. Paul MN

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Any St. Paulites, keep your eyes peeled...

My brand-new bike was stolen on Wednesday 4/28/10 at around 6:45pm in front of Now Sports on the corner of Snelling and Ashland Aves in St. Paul. I'm too damned trusting. Didn't lock it. Went in for two minutes; came out and it was gone.

Surly Steamroller
Cream
Drop bars
Black seat/bars/pedals/waterbottle cage

Brand-freakin new. Two days old.

If you have any information, call my cell 651-274-3054.

Reward offered for valid information.

Thanks

-Chris

I don't mean to be offensive or anything, but you didn't lock your brand new steamroller?!

That sucks man. I live up the street in the Midway and ride around the area all the time. Will definitely keep an eye out.

Thanks, stra24... any help is mucho appreciated!

I know, I know. In retrospect, it was completely and hopelessly stupid not to lock it. I should have just rolled the thing in the shop. Head in the clouds, and all that.

I'm sure someone just tossed it in a van and was off within seconds. Thieves probably watch outside the shop for boneheads like me!

At least it wasn't some $4000 racing bike. I can replace it without going to the poor house, but damn, what a bummer.

You'd think Surly (the company's only a few miles away from me) might help a guy out, though... Think they'd give me a deal on a replacement?

im truly sorry for your loss dude, that really really sucks.

but perhaps you will learn from this and lock your bike wherever you go, however long your stop is.
this kinda sucks to say, but i feel everyone should be as untrusting as can be with their bike....i use both a cable and u-lock, and lock my seat and both wheels on top of frame. even still, there are people that will steal your handlebars (happened to bike snob)

Wow! That just plain stinks. How ironic that I just ordered one today from my LBS. I rarely let any of my bikes out of my sight, but even if it's just for a few seconds I will cable lock them. BTW, another thing I do is engrave my initials on the underside of the bottom bracket. I assume you recorded the serial number, assuming the frame had one?

Indeed. Lesson learned.

If I didn't feel so stupid, I'd be really bitter!

I'm pretty sure Surly's not gonna toss you a new bike because you forgot to lock yours.

Sucks though, I'm looking to build up a Steamroller of my own.

I don't expect them to "toss me one". But a hard-luck story has to be worth a few bucks off MSRP, no?

But it's not really a hard luck story. That would be if you HAD locked it, but it had been stolen regardless. You making a bad decision isn't "hard luck" IMO.

Aaaaaaaaaaanywho.... Steamrollers are awesome. Enough of me arguing.

That sucks hardcore. Keep your eye out on Craigslist for St. Paul and surrounding cities. Just might turn up...
