What is your gear ratio?

Hi!

Just a simple curious polling of different people's ratios.

i ride the generic 46/16
have a cheapo 44t chainring i swop every now and then...

TejanoTrackie 04-28-10 07:43 PM

Currently 42 x 16 on my FG and 52 x 20 on my SS. I've got a Surly Steamroller on order that comes with 47 x 19 fixed, and will probably not change it.

NateRod 04-28-10 07:44 PM

Used to ride 48/17 (74.2 GI)
now riding 48/18 (70.1 GI)

I kind of liked 48/17 better. Might go back to that.

WoundedKnee 04-28-10 07:55 PM

46x17.. planning on 49x19 or something like that later.

Leukybear 04-28-10 08:02 PM

Depends on which bike I ride; but most commonly 46/17 and 48/17 on my pcept and vigorelli (75's&zen's& either DA or EAI cog); 17 helps save my tires by providing an abundant 17 skid patches; but I also have set ups at 42/16; 52/14 (I use a brake with this one  )

I don't see why you need such high ratio on the street...are you running brakes?

elemental 04-28-10 10:48 PM

Looking to put a 44/17 (69.9 gear inches) or 44/18 (66.0 gear inches) on the bike I'm building up now. It's an unusual build, though, so I have slightly different needs. Regardless, I like small gears.

Mynt 04-28-10 11:42 PM

Been riding the stock 48:16. Recently rode 35+ miles for the first time and it worked fine for me. Still gonna try a lower ratio soon though...

16v 04-29-10 12:20 AM

47:17 currently. Im awaiting a 18t cog though.

F4UX3/2 04-29-10 01:22 AM

42X17 commuter (64.9 GI) which is awesome for going up hills with a fully loaded (huge ass) backpack. It's also really good for killing my old road bike tires on the hills of SF after I get new ones ( in the form of epic skiddzz).

50X15 track (87.6 GI) for tail gunning like a mofo

the_don 04-29-10 01:52 AM

48x15

vincexs 04-29-10 02:07 AM

48x16, thinking about trying 48x17 soon.

fixiekid505 04-29-10 02:08 AM

Everyday commuter: 46/17
Polo bike: 42/19 That makes spinning down hills really fun.

muckymucky 04-29-10 03:14 AM

for super flat davis, ca.

redfb 04-29-10 04:56 AM

48x16 fixed
48x18 SS

i want to change that 16t for a 19t just for fun, i'm not all about street cred high gear ratio numbers, i can do the 16t fine but it's no good when the wind is gusting 40 mph

Scrodzilla 04-29-10 05:06 AM

48/20 on my Premium Brew (brakeless)

48/18 on my Madison (w/ brake)

rustybrown 04-29-10 05:55 AM

44-16 on my Raleigh
52-16 on my Peugeot "speed yacht"
