Broken Spacer? What gives!
While at work today I decided to take my bike out for a spin during lunch. Before I got on the bike I noticed that one of my rear hub spacers had cracked in half! Has this happened to anybody? Why or how could this have happened? Can I replace it with a standard 3mm spacer or is this a different type of piece all together? Please help!!

yeah i've had it happen i guess from clamping the wheel too tightly in the dropouts. the part in the picture is actually a locknut (if it's threaded), not just a spacer. it's to keep the hub cones from unscrewing on the axle. i had kind of a hard time finding a proper size replacement but ymmv. see if your bike co-op or LBS can find a match for you.

that happened to me last month. Same thing as above...I cranked the axle nuts down too hard and cracked the locknut. I got a replacement at my LBS. It's not the exact same as the other side but w/e, it doesn't matter.

One of my rear ones cracked and it looked pretty flimsy upon inspection, compared to others I'd seen on hubs. I got replacements for both at the LBS (better ones).
