Is Suzue still making hubs? I thought i read somewhere that they had gone out of business, and I can't find their website online or anything.

Are their hubs good? I'm thinking of picking up some Suzue Pro Max Carbon track hubs for my Presto b/c I think they would look absolutely perfect on it. Let me know if y'all know anything about these bad boys...

I've used a Suzue hubs before, but the lower line of products though, never had enough for those big boys.
The Promax's quality is quite superior, I'd get them if I can get a hold of them.

Suzue made a complete range of hubs from every day to things like those bad bioys pictured above... would rate them behind Sansin but they do get credit for building some of the first decent and reliable mass produced cartridge bearing hubs.

Picked one of these up the other day at a local shop that likes to hand out freebies to certain people and am looking forward to building it up into a multi speed wheel although it would also make the most beautiful SS hub as well... wish I had the matching front hub.

there's some gold SB ones on Benscycle. BUT, the bikebiz guy seems to think the SB ones are crap?

160 for a pair of sealed promax's, 200 for loose ball ones. the website is super janky but they are legit. i got my dura ace hubs from them.

Suzue was bought by another company and is back making hubs. The old Suzue made them in Japan and the new one is making them in Taiwan. The quality is not as good but its still a good hub. It's inbetween Dura Ace and Grand Compe quality/market wise.

I don't understand how a company making track parts could go out of business right now...

Like...if you could survive making track parts 10-15 years ago, how the hell isn't there enough business now? Doesn't make sense to me.

Also, do you think that those carbon pro-max that Ben's has on Ebay were made in Japan or Taiwan?

Well, they used to make loads of road and mtb hubs, but they never got into cassette hubs afaik. That's where the market is...

Suntour managed to spend tons of cash on the wrong areas and went out of business. I would assume these are Taiwanese made because I hadn't seen them before. I checked out the Suzue situation a few months ago in Osaka in a parts catalog and the shop owner told me what I said above. That being said they should still be of high quality. I think it is just minor details.. but that is regarding their standard track model. I hadn't seen these ti recently on ebay and here.

If I recall correctly, someone recently found some deadstock of Suzue Pro hubs, the more common and sought after hubs. I feel like it was Soma so maybe ask them. Ben's has had the carbon ones up on their website/ebay for a few years so whatever they are selling is more likely to be the original stuff.

These Carbon hubs are not new and were definitely made in Japan.

That's cool then and would explain why I didn't see them in the catalog.

They look awesome. I'd say go for it. I recently picked up a Zipp 3000 and it has a Suzue skewer on it. I think I was more stoked on the skewer than the wheel when it came.

Does Van have a track? Our track has been locked up for over e year now :<

We have an indoor track in Burnaby, only track in the Lower Mainland. It is steep though, 47 degree, which is waaaaay too steep for a newbie like myself.
Wait, the Victoria Velodrome is closed? How come?

There is a field on the inside that is disrepair and the people in charge of the area want to demolish the velodrome. The Velodrome Association is trying to stop them and open it up again but it has been a pretty slow battle. It's a shame that the field is even there in the first place. The velodromes I went to in Japan had a lake or some nice plantlife in the middle. :thumb: But the Velodromes there have $$ Here is a different story :cry:

Suntour's hubs were made by Sansin... some of the smoothest and most beautiful hubs I have ever handled have been Sansin / Suntour.

One might use Campagnolo as a benchmark for how good a hub is and Sansin hubs are their equal in every respect.

yeah you cant go wrong with the promax's they're like what $150-200 a pair now thats amazingly good for the quality since campy's go for about 300-400 a pair

Yeah I got some promax about a year ago for around 175 and have loved them sense. Only had a problem with the rear hub, sometimes it tightens itself up and seizes. Not sure why, but its an easy fix. I'm sure I'm doing something not exactly tight, which is why it happened.

But the hubs roll so smooth. I'd recommend them any day. And I want some carbon ones too.

well, after much debating I decided against those Suzue hubs. Just too much coinage. Instad, I opted for a complete Dura Ace to Open Pro wheelset from Velomine that is only $370 shipped. Better deal, I think.
