What problem do they solve?
|
i guess they really dont solve anything. just thought id throw that out there. gonna order me some power grips now

Half clips are fine for SS but not recommended for FG.

I've really never understood why these exist.
|
A lot of commuters that come into my shop use them. I asked one guy and he said they keep his feet from sliding forward on his pedals in wet weather. Makes some sense, I guess. Most casual riders that come in also feel they "need" them, but it's bunk. They usually end up buying them even when we try telling them they're unnecessary.

i have a pair that I took off my friend's vintage road bike (she doesn't want it). Thought I'll find a purpose for them but no. Ended up in my parts box forever.

They aren't that bad if you aren't skidding. I think the longer plastic ones work better than the metals ones. Better than no clips...

Anecdotal:
My ex-girlfriend's twin sister had an old mixte road bike and was frustrated with not being able to keep her feet on the pedals better. I gave her clips, she freaked. I then set her up with half clips and it worked for her. If one wants just a little more security, they're not bad. But any more than just a little more and you're much better off with clips and straps. |
